What has OWS become?

Seems like it's become a protest about everything involving money. Anything involving conspicuous consumption, some poor sap wants to talk about OWS and chimes in with "nobody can afford that in this economy".

These people know that economic inequality will exist always. Doctors, lawyers, small business owners, people with high aspirations will always have an economic advantage compared to the uneducated and uninspired folks who work fast food jobs and drive trucks for a living. There will always be someone willing to kick-ass harder, put in longer hours, know more of the right people... have the right connections... have the right advantages... create the right opportunity for themselves to get ahead. That's just the way the world works.

But they don't see that as "fair". What do they think fair is?

It's a haterfest

The truth is just having running water, eating three square meals a day, and indoor plumbing puts people in the global 1%

"fair" would be that person you just described reaping enormous benefits for his/her effort rather than just getting by.

In my example, the person working harder is the person reaping enormous benefits. I'm not talking about scrubbing toilets harder.

OWS is a joke, as it was destined to be. The people who put it together never counted that sleeping out in a park during the winter in NYC was impossible. They had New Years Eve parties in NYC and protested at the Rose Parade, but the general public didn't notice a thing. The other day they tried to occupy Grand Central and then the public library - Fucking brilliant. Let's piss off more of the 99% while accomplishing nothing.

They're effectively leaderless and it shows.

But all that energy (and anger) we saw this past fall represents some serious potential if the right people ever manage to harness it.

yea i thought the OWS movement was about fair taxation, but it has turned into a war against the rich. now even the upper middle class are being targeted as the 1%.

Equality of OPPORTUNITY --and equality of OUTCOME --are two entirely different things.
