Who was offering up turning a website into a Droid app?

I can't seem to locate the thread. If anyone can recall and post it that'd be great.

Regards,

Likewise man, hope you are well ;)

Glad I could help.

I can handle that, Do you just want the existing website shown in a web-view container or do you want the sites existing data rebuilt in to a native app?

you dont really turn a site into an app, they still have to have internet and a browser.

i am doing app building as well but trying to focus on real standalone apps.

The dedicated browser is the app and I can't think of a single Smartphone that doesn't have an internet connection.

This is just the tip of the iceberg really. As you know, anything it possible :winkwink:

webviews are not browsers and do not have the controls of a browser. the default for webviews is to pop/launch a app that uses urls when clicked (thus the browser then comes into play) doing this then pushes your app into background...

its similar to an iframe. yes anything is possible, and the problem with apps that demand internet is not everyone is online all the time, its annoying when connections drop and you cant use an app, this happens with games and tons of apps that demand internet...

Since these are for people with already existing mobile sites, it makes sense. You'd only be able to access it via the internet anyhow. It would be great to do these so that people could view them offline, but the amount on content on some of adult mobile sites would have people installing 100mb apps to their phones.

You are right about Webview by default ditching the "app" to open clicked links into the browser. I've gone a little bit further than that. Everything remains within the webview, well accept for MP3, MP4 and 3GP...all those get played through the mediaplayer(default...they just get ignored). Softkeys manage back and forth within the webview browser. I was quite happy when I figured this out...on my own, without assistance from the old lady. :winkwink:

Holler my way sometime. I've got some ideas that might benefit the both of us

No worries man. There's plenty of pie to go around. The conversation keeps the topic on people's minds. :winkwink:

Can someone expain why a PDF file with hyperlinks (a pdf copy of the <1 page> website) would not work for offline (and online) use by the smartphone user?

candyflip 01-19-2012 08:28 AM

You'd need to provide more info that than. Lots of different variables, from pdf reader, the phone or even the pdf itself.

mobile devices call upon an app to handle everything, so it would use default pdf reader. then upon clicking, it would launch browser app.

Brujah 01-19-2012 09:13 AM

I'd like to see some samples how the apps look. I mean, is it any different than viewing a link with the mobile browser?

Hit the thread in my sig.

I just posted an updated list you can download from.

It's not really any different from the browser. It's a unobstructed window with no header or footer, with launcher icon. All video and audio is played in the android media player.

This is a simple means of getting people who download back to your site with one click.

INever 01-19-2012 11:23 AM

Sent you an email. Looks good.

machinegunkelly 01-19-2012 11:30 AM
