CS:

take the batteries out of it and place it in the top rack of your dishwasher ... no detergent, no heat dry ... send it through the NORMAL cycle ... then remove it and shake as much excess water from it as you can, and then let it dry thoroughly for a few days ... even placing on top of a gentle heat source.

(remember to put the batteries back in before you try to sync it!)

Your Welcome! :thumbsup

:D

That could be a skillful marketing campaign...

"Apple wireless keyboard, so durable it's dishwasher safe!"

I always have a spare on hand (or few spares in this case) and wash my keyboards maybe every 4-5 months when they start getting a bit gummed up ...

I was scared to hell to try this the first time, but now think of it as regular maintenance

(it works on Logitech MX3000 keyboards too!)

A lot easier than popping off all they keys and wiping them down individually!!

A keyboard is a very simple device, and runs on extremely low amperages, so water does not affect it the same way it would other electronics.

You cant afford an Apple Wireless Keyboard.

I actually dont have a dishwasher, but I tried cleaning it up, and left in the airing cupboard over night, and instead of hieroglyphics, i was getting it working aside from the 0 key, the volume mute key, and the caps lock key, but then it all screwed up,, and when I pressed 'd' it stared adding bookmarks and stuff, so I have given up and posting this on an old laptop...

I'll get another on Saturday - I have full applecare etc... Just a bit of a long way to the store :)

Where am I overpaying? The replacement is free?

ncg 02-03-2012 05:17 AM

If you think having an extended warranty is going to cover accidental damage then you might get a bit of a surprise....

Applecare is not insurance.

But then, Apple now and again takes pity on people and replaces stuff when it's clearly not covered under warranty. if you expect a free replacement just hope that you get someone in a good mood :upsidedow

There are LSI's (Liquid Spill Indicators) in the keyboards so if they bother to check they can see if it's had a liquid spill, even if you do a good job of cleaning up any visible stains.

Just ignore him, he's just jealous.

You have lots of alternatives:

- Apple will probably replace your keyboard for free. I stepped on my apple mouse and broke it about 1 month after owning one and the Apple store replaced it free. (They also gave me free out of warranty support once on another issue)

- If you need a keyboard in a hurry you can plug any USB keyboard, even a PC Keyboard, into it. It works nicely. And you can even have 2 keyboards connected at the same time. (I have my Apple wireless keyboard AND an old IBM Clicky keyboard from 1985 which I love - they work perfectly together)

- If you have another computer on your network you can still control your Mac. Get http://synergy-foss.org/. I think there's a way to do this via the new Lion OS/X too but I don't know how.

Apple Rocks.
