Members can't play mobile video formats in members area - help

I have two video formats for mobile devices in a members area - .m4v and .3gp - lately i've had a few members say they can't play those video files on their iphone or ipad.

when i play those same files placed outside the members area they do play on iphones/ipads.

inside the members area there is a Flash/SWF menu in the header - is the SWF on the pages the mobile format videos are linked from the problem?

this didn't seem to be a problem with earlier versions of iphone.

thanks

Well, iOS devices can't play Flash/SWF by default so this might well be the problem.

whoever put flash in your mobile design should give you refund. ;)

If I was you, do the mobile version pure basic.

I mean as basic as you can.

For vids just do a simple download link.

Thats it.

Not even any grafics.

No saple thumbs.

Just text with a link to download.

Sounds like it might be an issue with your authentication setup and mobile devices.

Make your videos .mp4.

just a standard htaccess protected members area - the video files aren't stored in the members area, they are in a folder under my CMS directory.

i'll try replacing the Flash menu and see if that fixes things.

in future i'll stick to MP4's which can be played by all mobile devices.

Are you linking directly to the files or trying to stream them? The iphone does something funky with 206 partials when it tries to stream. I'm still working on exactly what it's doing.
