How many of you are college grads here?
How many here are college grads? How many of you have masters degrees? Phd's? Just was curious! There have to be lots of people here with both college educations and noncollege. Some people are surely paid for sure I bet and make huge money. I was just curious what your thoughts were on it. Not asking for your life education and wages just wondered if anyone else pondered this before? :)

I have swimming and gymnastics awards.
|
GED here.
|
Bachelors.
I think this topic has been brought up many times before, and most of GFY do not have degrees and seem to find a college education a waste of both time and money. Especially if your goal is to work for yourself, or online. Assuming you know this in advance. :2 cents: |
+1 for college.
however, i paid my way through college with adult work. |
+1 Bachelors.
|
I visited a college once, does that count?
Debbie |
Got a degree!
|
2 undergrad degrees and presently resuming my grad work.
|
I am, why
|
I probably should've instead asked....how many GFYers are fulltime cash cow porn guys with college degrees running their own businesses and with large streams of income? :)

B.S. (in bs)
If I could go back I would drive truck instead. Not much more work, get to see the country and I would have been sitting way better when I hit 30. |
I had the Dept of Education (US Govt) call me for the second time today regarding a loan.. some arab sounding dude gave them my phone number.
American formal education is nothing more than another money making industry that has some tangible benefits sometimes (if daddy has money) but, at one time was an easy ticket (if you had any smarts and could avoid Vietnam) to a nice job and good living. In the 50's and 60's and somewhat in the early 70's, a BS meant a gauranteed demand for you. A good job. But population and loss of industry meant by the time Papa Bush got in in 1988 you had a lot of competition for the best industry and technical jobs. Now I don't know what they are good for except getting a nursing degree or medical something and going into deep dept. |
But.. it does make you smarter. Able to read lots. Able to write lots. Able to do math in your head espec ratio problems which is most of life.
Able to problem solve. It shows fortitude to take around 1000 tests. It shows who you are to others who also have degrees. Deep down I absolutely respect anyone with a degree espec a BS or higher but a BA is OK too. :) |
3 posts without a vid? what the hell :)
I have to unwind. BP is sky high. I lost my temper today on the phone to the Ed girl. :) Swore 3 times and got reprimanded three times. It wasnt good. :) But hopefully they wont call again. They leave a message, you call back and make you wait up to 15 mins or more (30 mins last time) on my dime (cell phone maybe $3-4 .. 12 cents a min) and it peeved me off. It isnt a free call for all of us. I get cranky sometimes. Surprise lol :) |
Going to college now!

I play a doctor at sorority parties.... :Graucho I am an educated fool. BTW, I think that I learned while in college that the OP's question should have been phrased, "How many of you here are college grads?" ADG |
I can count to potato
|
Actually it is more like about 400 tests for a degree. i had 241 credits plus 3 years of Vo-Tech so it seemed like 1000 tests :)
Respect to all the students. It is the greatest time of your life if it wasnt for that damn studying. :) Chicks will never be easier. |

I had this major asshole named Mathis who taught Mechanical Drafting just before CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) came around.
He would load you down with work so you lived behind the drafting board. Guess what? Mechanical drafting quickly became obsolete. That is the prob. Most of the Business Dept courses are a total waste of time and not easy. All these theories you will only use if you get employed by IBM. Best thing for you long term: Math Algebra until your head explodes. Someone is a math major here. Phoenix I think :) I had one class in Calc and that stuff is insane. To do calc you must know algebra inside and out. I actually was getting to my mental capacity after the one required course of calc. That stuff (calc books) was mostly developed and written by bearded guys 300-400 years ago while on hash when there was nothing to do but drugs and math for "fun" in 1568 or something. The one thing it teaches you? There are some VERY smart people and many things are possible incl landing on the moon. |
one more for the days when the studying goes on forever..
when you have to get up at 3am to cram for a 10:00 test.. again and again.. that is really where the rubber hit the road and you earned your degree i did it straight and i did it on cannabis, actually math was harder on cannabis (if you smoked before a test) the rest about the same. some expando did help a bit I think when getting up at 3 am.. |
I certainly see the value in an education and I have textbooks laying around that I read. I ended up with a college education but no degree because halfway through college I got distracted by other things. Today I live in a college town and help people with their homework, but have no letters behind my name.
It's fine for now, but if I ever had a family and wanted to go 9-5 it would be a problem. |
i lied :)
upon the wall hangs your degree your parents craved too much for you that song is kind of depressing now days :) one more to shift the vibe (keeper :winkwink: ) |

I have a HS diploma only. I spent slightly less than 2 years in community college and bailed. Didn't seem worth it to me to continue spending my time in school, when I already knew exactly what I needed to do... and how I was going to do it.

I've always said I think college is great for those that go into a profession where it helps them, but if you want to be self-employed doing something that doesn't require it, and not having one will not hold you back, then it doesn't matter. Of course, lots of people don't know what they want to do at 18. I ended up doing what I wanted and knew what I wanted very early on. I would never fault someone either way. |
