Anybody was ever debited from an ATM without receiving the money?

Well, it just happened to me about 6 hours ago.

I used Paxum's Mastercard and after a long processing of 40-50 seconds, it went back to the "Welcome screen" of that HSBC ATM.

I'm in Panama and I was afraid it was debited from my account without getting my $200.00

Just logged into Paxum and there I see:

4564558 2012-02-17 20:20:35 ATM Withdrawal International. Surcharge: -3.0, HSBC BANK PMA*BRIS PANAMA PAN Funds Withdrawn By ATM 203.00

What the fuck?! They took me $203.00...

I contacted Paxum, but I'm not sure if I should also call Mastercard or the number behind the card. I will wait Paxum's reply until then.

Anybody experienced something like this?

Spunky 02-17-2012 11:57 PM

Heard about a couple issues lately regarding them and ATM's.I like the check in the mail method more and more

lagcam 02-17-2012 11:59 PM

Just email Paxum. I am sure that they have a process for this.

hope it's not what i think it is.

Scat in the Hat 02-18-2012 12:14 AM

Before I even clicked into this thread I actually thought "Panama"...

That's why I never use ATM's in the interior or during a heavy rainstorm. I had a similar issue, was only able to recover half my money and it took about six months.

BIGTYMER 02-18-2012 12:14 AM

Damn that sucks.

Yes, a few times. Contact the bank. there should be a record if the cash didn't come out of the ATM

Yes. My card got copied when I was using it in Bulgaria and I found money had been withdrawn from my account. Do a search on Google to see how they copy a card. Organised crime.

Jakez 02-18-2012 01:41 AM

^Totally off topic as usual.

DaddyHalbucks 02-18-2012 01:59 AM

it happened to me a few years ago, with an ePassporte card. Five hundred bucks.. ouch.

It was the bank's fault. The ATM was old and defective and due to be replaced.

It took over a month, but the bank did eventually make it right.

Deputy Chief Command 02-18-2012 03:14 AM

have had this happen couple of times while in China, each time for couple of hundreds .. each time the money automatically came back after 3 weeks or so .. just got credited back to my account without any questions asked

v4 media 02-18-2012 03:17 AM

I had it happen at a Spanish bank, went in there and they told me to come back in the morning so they could check the cash amount in the machine, they gave me the money straight away.

seeandsee 02-18-2012 06:58 AM

Jesus christ, my banks are super cool i guess, never had similar problems

Barry-xlovecam 02-18-2012 07:29 AM

This same thing happened to me with the old epassporte -- resolving it required a dispute to be filed with the card issuer (paxum in your case) and the card issuer makes complaint with the ATM machine's owner to resolve it.

The ATM (the "stick up man") was at a bank and resolving it took a month and a half

In short, contact Paxum you would initiate the complaint of an AMT shortage there ...

V_RocKs 02-18-2012 08:18 AM

Happened to me before, but it was a banks ATM card in their ATM so they handled it in hours....

LiveDose 02-18-2012 08:37 AM

Happened to me once in college in the 80's.

WarChild 02-18-2012 08:37 AM

Happened to me a few times in Costa Rica with Epassporte. Both times it was resolved and I got the money in about a week.

SHIMMYS GRINGO TIP O' THE DAY:

if you select "english" on the ATM screen, in a spanish speaking country... it usually eats your card! learn some basic spanish and the "cajero" will give you no problems :thumbsup

That's just a stupid answer. It has nothing to do with the language you select.

Hmm, thanks for the tip. They are trying to defraud gringos? That would not be a surprise, they always are trying to squeeze you in every way possible to get your money.

Even the rental condo I have here told me "We will keep $300.00 from your deposit since you smoked in your unit"... Hell I never, EVER smoked in my whole life! I was so upset.

Thanks for the info... but if that was the case they can now retrieve all the money they want... and I should get the card canceled. I believe it's more like the Clave/ATM did not have the $200.00 in the machine and still debited my Paxum Mastercard.

Well I hope so.

the indigo 02-18-2012 04:54 PM

Paxum replied "We suggest that you first try to contact the owner of the ATM and ask him to provide for you a valid solution for your situation."

I guess it is HSBC Panama... and it's the Panama Carnaval starting today until Tuesday: the day I'm flying back to Canada. Damn, I must be very out of luck.

Chris 02-18-2012 05:20 PM

Generally when this happens you need to contact the bank that is listed on the ATM.

They ATM generally will see this error when they are doing their settlements and the drop is dropped off.

If you dont see it back in a few days after you talk to hsbc email me [email protected]

Hey Chris,

Thanks for the feedback. I will try to call HSBC Panama on Wednesday or Thursday from Canada. I had my camera with me so I took a video of the ATM machine's details in spanish.

Jacob[Soft] 02-20-2012 09:39 AM

I had such chance, had to wait for my money about 2 mouth, really annoying

CYF 02-20-2012 10:26 AM

JP-pornshooter 02-20-2012 12:56 PM

happened to me in vegas, pissing drunk getting 500 out of the nearest atm, after punching in the passcode i checked my text msgs, when i looked up there was no money, not sure if someone swiped the money from me or money never came out.
filed claim with my bank (of america) who did refund the money to my account after a few weeks...

Rochard 02-20-2012 02:08 PM

Years ago I deposited my paycheck into an ATM and it was never credited. The bank said they didn't get anything. I had to have a new check issued. This was back when I was broke and it caused a lot of problems for me.

Turns out the bank found it a year later when they pulled out the ATM to clean it.

Same thing. The bank told me to call ePassporte and ePass told me to call the bank. But.. it was the bank's fault.

For once, it was not an evil Mallick plot.

LightscapeMedia 02-20-2012 06:27 PM

Once I went to Mexico and had to use an ATM and didn't realize how many peso bills the equivalent of $300USD would be.. The stack that spit out was so thick that I could only pry about half of it loose before the other half sucked back into the machine.
