Off Topic - Wrong Medication !!!

So went to pick up my perscription from my chestist... which they check and double check... 2 people have to sign off on it...

They gave me the wrong medication !!! Instead of Simvistatin they gave me Levothyroxine, a medication for Thyoid troubles !!! Which I dont actually have !

Also they gave me 100 micrograms, if I had taken my 2 tablets dose like I do with Simvistatin, you'd all be probably coming to my funeral... fucked up or what !

Expect someone else got your bag too.

TrashyContent 02-24-2012 02:29 PM

No I got the right bag... all my other medication was correct, what they had done however was to put the wrong lable on to the wrong medication...

It had the lable for my Simvastatin, but it wasnt on Sinvastatin !!! It was on a box of Levothyroxine !!! The box is the same (same maker) but a totally different medication ! It's for Tyroid problems... which I dont have :( Could of ended real bad if I hadn't noticed...

200mcgs of levothyroxine wouldn't do anything but MAYBE give you a couple of hours of an increased metabolism... think clamy hands, jittery, etc.

Levothyroxine is T4 - this hormone is not active in the body until the body converts it to T3 (active hormone) when needed.

Still VERY shitty to get the wrong medication though!

PR_Glen 02-24-2012 04:52 PM

probably should switch pharmacies...

xenigo 02-24-2012 04:52 PM

Wow... this happened to my mom a number of years ago at a local pharmacy. Unfortunately she did not catch the mistake, and was on the medication for a number of weeks and it resulted in a whole host of new medical problems that nobody could understand. It really fucked her up.

You're lucky you caught it.

TrashyContent 02-24-2012 05:28 PM

Hmmm...

Sorry to hear that :Oh crap

I think even if the medication they gave me couldn't of killed me... it's still a massive act of neglagence on their part... and just maybe one that could kill someone !

I have to take 100mg daily of levothyroxine (probably from chernobyl). You have to take it for weeks straight every day at the same time of day on an empty stomach for it to have any effect. You wouldn't get jittery - literally nothing would happen other then maybe a little trouble falling asleep that night.

I believe t3 gets converted to t4 not vice versa.

T4 is a precursor to T3 (the active thyroid hormone). :thumbsup
