OK so God is bad word... lets start again...

do believe there is an 'undefined force, ability, possibility' that people are able to use to achieve results?

i.e. your thoughts can influence the nature of your life either positive or negative by intellectual effort and considered actions?

that's obsessive compulsive disorder

Human mind is powerful

I've seen and experienced on numerous occasions events that strongly point to some energy, force, or principle that we do not yet fully understand. It was only several hundred years ago that mariners began using a compass, understanding that we are surrounded by a field of some sort. Later, we got a better understanding of what magnetism is. Similarly, there is another field, force, or whatever that we don't really understand just yet but that I've most certainly experienced more than once.

sure but its all within you, not some mystical unknown source. we are all our own gods.

internal or external?

What you think and your habits dictate your life.

TisMe 04-21-2012 09:27 AM

I have no clue nor do I care if such a force exists.

I respect everyone's right to believe as they choose until they band together to impose their beliefs on others.

No. I vaguely recall a philosophy class in college where the question posed was something like "does 'hope' serve any purpose" and the example given was the Melians facing destruction at the hands of a much greater military force on their doorstep, ie: do the Melians benefit from hoping they don't get their asses kicked. If they sit there and just hope it doesn't happen, then of course it won't do any good. They have to take action in order to affect their destiny.

So no, just hoping (read: praying) by itself does nothing. Sometimes freak occurrences will make it seem like hope/prayer will do the trick, but generally speaking you have to take action to get the desired results. Followers of Christ the Scientist would have you believe that prayer alone is enough to heal the sick because most illnesses aren't fatal, but they shut up really quick when the feds come down on them for letting their children or other family members die of medically treatable ailments like diabetes.

Yes, I believe there is an internal force. But not an invisible man in the sky...
