Google drive?

Has anyone tried it?

marlboroack 04-27-2012 05:39 PM

Is it a stick or manual?

anexsia 04-27-2012 05:58 PM

I'm using it right now, works good. Signed up for it last night and they sent me an access email this morning.

drive.google.com is interesting. It allows to share files with anyone you want and edit together, from any device. You can sign up and sign in. Get started with 5GB free. Upgrade to 25 GB for less than $2.50 a month. It seems like quite a useful thing.

Extra 25GB for $2.49/month

Extra 200GB for $9.99/month

and it goes all the way up to 16TB

AllAboutCams 04-27-2012 06:14 PM

I get a fatal error on install of the Windows program :/ Lots of other people having the same problem it seems, so I'll just wait until the dust settles.

Rochard 04-27-2012 09:49 PM

Oh, I like this.... One of my big fear everyone has is loosing pictures in bulk. I back all my stuff up to a little drive, but this is nice...

garce 04-27-2012 09:54 PM

No better plan than to hand over even more of your personal information to Google.

Do no evil.

anexsia 04-27-2012 09:55 PM

There's also Ubuntu One that offers 5GB free as well, for people who don't want to use Google.

asdasd 04-27-2012 11:25 PM

I own hardware.

My thoughts exactly.

Let's give Google more of our data.

iDrive offers free space and if you need more, it ends up costing less than Google Drive.

I trust Google with a lot of my information, but I am not trusting enough to give a company that already knows so much about me even more information.

Especially since they have a blanket privacy policy now.

Konda 04-28-2012 12:41 AM

I am using it. It's pretty much the same as dropbox but cheaper and has direct intgration with Google Docs and Picasa and also with third party apps. I upgraded to the 100GB plan.

Highly recommend you archive them in multi part rar or .7z or whatever, and then make par2 volumes (I do 10% instead of the stock 5%) so if any part of the archive is broken, you have a good chance of repairing it all.

DamianJ 04-28-2012 04:56 AM

I highly recommend you look at the ToS, especially the part about licensing all the content you put on G Drive to google, to do whatever they want with.

There is not this need with dropbox or skydrive.

Axzar 04-29-2012 04:30 AM

Anyone know a way to gt all attachments in my Gmail sent emails into my G Drive. Sure would be great to browse them without having to open an email first.
