Everyone keeps improving picture quality etc, yet all you get on tv nowadays is shitty reality programmes. I hardly ever watch anything...

Rochard 05-10-2012 01:10 PM

Last time I was CES I was blown away by what I saw but it hasn't made it to the public yet. They had TVs that were as thin as sheet of glass with touch buttons - amazing.

I've been in Vegas for a few things but the CES is something that I still need to get to.

You've got a point there. Maybe it's better if you're glued to the Discovery Channel or Nat Geo.

Very cool. And true about crappy programming.. I have an antenna these days and usually watch youtube anyway rather than whats on tv. TV makes a nice monitor.

and almost all broadcasts are still 1080i.

Only Blu ray movies will allow you take advantage of what a HD Tv can display -- and a few of the cable channels.

pornguy 05-10-2012 05:44 PM

We dont watch tv. Just netflix and blurray so it would be good for us.

Jakez 05-10-2012 06:20 PM

The only really amazing thing I've seen on TV that does HD justice was Planet Earth. Really wish they would make more episodes of that.

ajrocks 05-10-2012 06:23 PM

The picture quality on most TV's these days is already so high that the programming looks funny. It's almost like everything is a soap opera. I have to use a setting to lower the resolution to make it look normal.

What you're actually seeing is the super-high refresh rate (120hz, 240hz, even 600hz). The high refresh rate is required for 3D programming but on most TV's you can adjust it (Different manufacturers have different names for it) or disable the high refresh rate to make TV look more "normal".

I noticed something like this when I was watching a friends TV with a high refresh rate. Everything looks really weird, as if you're watching a show that is being filmed live or something.

Glossy screen which works like a most expensive mirror ever? No, thank you.

MaDalton 05-11-2012 01:49 AM

Meanwhile Sony and Panasonic are deep in the red - looks like Samsung is the new big player

sojproductions 05-11-2012 03:25 AM

samsung overtook sony a long while back, they are estimated at only 10% of the size of samsung which amazed me when i saw it on bbc.

That tv looks cool as fuck
