How many of you switched to Bing recently?

Just curious...

After 13 years, my home page is now Bing... (they've made a few changes over the years and the results seem far better than Google's lately).

Between the enormous amount of ads on Google now, and Amazon.com being in the results on page one of nearly every non porn search (and some porn searches too lol)... along with a ton of results on page 1-2 that are just blank pages or empty blogs with "hello world" it was just too much for me.

Google calls their recent updates a success, but based on that I'm guessing they are not actually using their search engine. lol

Rochard 05-20-2012 11:30 AM

Since I learned HTML I've always made my own start pages. I point my browser to a collection of pages locally on my hard drive and I update them as needed.

d-null 05-20-2012 11:31 AM

I use http://www.yandex.com/ more and more lately :2 cents:

uniquemkt 05-20-2012 11:33 AM

Bing stealing results from Google is all I really needed to know about Bing.

Axeman 05-20-2012 11:35 AM

I find I have to use Bing for about 70% of my searches since Penguin. The results on Google are just not meeting what I am looking for. Especially local searches.

Yeah I do too. I got the idea from a computer mag article about SuperKickStart.
You can check out the article here.

I also find I'm using Bing a lot more these days. Pretty respectable search.

You clearly aren't a webmaster. Metrics are what matter, not some retarded ass feeling you get about an engine based on what they supposedly did.

For me yahoo/bing traffic has a lower bounce rate across the board right now.

shake 05-20-2012 11:40 AM

No but I have been getting pretty frustrated with google results lately. Those annoying "local directory results" taking up the first half of the page when it's not what you're looking for, and too much amazon crap.

I tried https://duckduckgo.com/ (got some cool features) a while some months ago but then I switched back to google.

Chosen 05-20-2012 12:14 PM

I don't :pimp

429mg 05-20-2012 12:37 PM

Using http://www.duckduckgo.com and I like it

u-Bob 05-20-2012 12:57 PM

about:blank is my start page, but yes I've been using Bing a lot over the past week or so.

Google's results are getting more fucked up every time the sun rises. If 6 results on page 1 don't even contain the majority of the keywords you did a search for, you know they messed up really bad.

nickutis 05-20-2012 01:27 PM

It makes me happy to hear more and more complaints about google search quality.

Hopefully more and more people will switch to yahoo/bing, as I'm conquering 1st positions there while google thinks my sites are shit and not worth first 100 pages or so :D

TheSenator 05-20-2012 01:51 PM

Comparing "viagra" on search engines...

The both get hit with spammers.

looky_lou 05-20-2012 03:59 PM

Seems that Bing and Yahoo results have been much more relevant for the last year really.

The bounce rate is much lower for Bing and Yahoo too, which indicates more relevant results. Unfortunately the volume of traffic is less than 10% of Google on my sites, even though I usually rank much better on Bing and Yahoo.

Only problem is that only Internet marketers pay attention to these differences. The general public just goes with Google based on habit and lack of knowledge.

If only there was a way to convey to the masses that they will be much happier and more productive with their searches on Bing.

smutnut 05-20-2012 04:04 PM

Funny you should mention this. They just used the term "Bing it" instead of "google it" on HBO's VEEP the other night and I was wondering if it was paid for product placement.

I do the same thing. Makes me work much smarter and faster. I hate digging through links I don't need. On my own page I have exactly what I need.

Ya, I have a page I made with everything I need (Affiliates, my site shit for all 1k+ sites, etc) that I open in a separate window that is always there as I work.. then flip flop back and forth.

I guess I should have worded it more about switching search engines to find shit vs a homepage.

19teenporn 05-20-2012 08:17 PM

Bing doesn't send me visitors. I'll stay with fucking G

anexsia 05-20-2012 08:29 PM

man...those bing commercials they have been playing in movie theaters, on tv, and on youtube...the song is really catchy :)

BIGTYMER 05-20-2012 08:30 PM

Google really fucked up this time..

FlowerKid 05-20-2012 10:01 PM

Fuck the Google with its unrelated search results an thousands of unfinished beta tools.

GAMEFINEST 05-20-2012 10:39 PM

google is on crack lately...

That was only in very isolated cases, like a completely random word that appeared in only one page on the web, that Bing hadn't yet crawled. From memory it had something to do with the toolbar finding that URL; they were not routinely and systematically scraping Google's SERPs.

I've been using Bing for a while due to Google frequently requiring me to complete a CAPTCHA, or even just showing a page saying "we can't process your request right now" with no offer of continuing once I prove myself to be human. I still use Bing even when I'm on other computers that aren't saddled with this issue. Give Bing a try, you may be surprised...

martinsc 05-21-2012 01:49 AM

still with G..... :thumbsup:thumbsup

Vjo 05-21-2012 03:18 AM

I still use G for searching :(

But Ive been switching between Yahoo and Bing for years on the Exit.

Do as I say not as I do lol

Captain Kawaii 05-21-2012 03:23 AM

Bing and Yahoo are where its at. Google just shot themselves in the foot. In fact I would say they did a self-inflicted body shot...Media is picking up on it fast as it affects all the businesses that own the media that Google is fucking with.lol

acrylix 05-21-2012 04:41 AM

I've read some conspiracy theorists who believe Google is intentionally sabotaging their results in the following win-win scenario:

Increase profits from Adwords, while also losing some search market share to competitors...thus making it harder for the government to bring an antitrust suit. Ridiculous theory maybe. But the fact that they are claiming Penguin to be a success makes it seem they are perfectly happy with the crappy search results.

Nah I'm #1 and #2 on bing for my keywords, but I won't use the piece off crap myself. You clearly went on some tangent about targeting when the conversation was about using. Still getting 21k Google hits for every 1k Bing hits.

That would be a really cool story if it wasn't for the fact that google only has 3 times the market share of bing not 21.

uniquemkt 05-21-2012 08:39 AM

"Market share" is just one aspect, audience demographics are far more important... but you already knew that.

sleazydoesit 05-21-2012 08:39 AM

I used to be a big fan of infoseek... then lycos, then hotbot, then altavista... then dogpile... eh fuck it I just go with google.

But I did try to sign up for Microsoft's latest attempt at being cool, so.cl. I guess you need an invite. Meh.

If you had #1 on google and bing for the SAME KEYWORDS you would not be getting 1/20th of the traffic from bing.

You are either.
A. full of shit
B. Ranking for different keywords

uniquemkt 05-21-2012 08:56 AM

You know the old Army saying.. If the map doesn't match the terrain, use the terrain. Results not fitting what you expect don't point out a problem with the result.

- Jesus Christ - 05-21-2012 08:57 AM

Definitely A.

uniquemkt 05-21-2012 01:47 PM

Well JC not only did you die for my sins but you also pointed out my obvious delusion. Thanks!

I would be curious to hear other peoples results with Bing, if the consensus is that mine are atypical.

$5 submissions 05-21-2012 02:00 PM

Bing's gotten SOCIAL. Expect it to follow Google's steps in a bit.

429mg 05-21-2012 02:22 PM

Have you seen the new Google features. They pull info from Wikipedia and serve it right next to the search listings.

Google "Kate Winslet" or any other famous person, place or city. This will kill a lot of mainstream affiliate sites.

Vapid - BANNED FOR LIFE 05-21-2012 07:13 PM

I use my head.

2012 05-21-2012 08:14 PM

I have, and quite please with the results I might add.

You mean like a speed dial?

Available in Opera, Firefox and Chrome :winkwink:

Just Alex 05-21-2012 09:12 PM

Isn't there a bing club or something like that where you get rewards for using their search?

sandman! 05-21-2012 09:13 PM

all google still here :)

oppoten 05-21-2012 10:43 PM

I've also switched to Bing since Penguin, not had any reason for complaint so far.

BIGTYMER 05-21-2012 10:50 PM

I really like Bing's mobile page.
