I laugh because I made the same exact remark a month or two back. Not about Obama, but that you could find him in the closest political thread or that they should post one. Something to that effect.

It makes me laugh because you also said more a less the same thing. Hilarious.

That's actually funny because I was going to start a thread with I love Obama with the body a link to this thread.

Sorry CPAK we've been so snowed under lately I haven't even had time to talk about Obama. I'll get back with you via email.

In order to focus on excellent Strongbox and Clonebox support, we're in the process of discontinuing some other services. We really appreciate your patience as we transition to re-focus on our core clientele, Strongbox and Clonebox webmasters.

Strongbox product alternatives

I have been trying to reach them for a couple of weeks, no answers to emails, unreachable by phone. As a Strongbox customer for many years, this is a bit of a shock.

I was planning to purchase their Clonebox package, but the complete lack of response and any semblance of customer support for their existing products has scared me off.

Anyway I need a reliable site backup service like Clonebox had promised to be. With customer support. Any suggestions? I have a 300 GB site to back up.

Thank you.

raymor 07-17-2012 09:10 AM

Enzob, what is your email address so I can check to see what happened with your email, please. Sometimes I don't know which GFY nick is who, in terms of real names or email addresses.

enzob 07-17-2012 11:34 AM

Dear Ray,

I have received an explanation from one of your colleagues regarding the situation over at BetterCGI. I can't tell you what a relief it is to hear you are still in business.

I had pretty much given up on BetterCGI and was hunting around for a replacement to Strongbox and Clonebox.

One thing: if you guys are too busy to answer emails or provide customer support right now, it would be a good idea to put a notice to that effect on your website or set up an automated email answer. Something, anything, to communicate you still exist and that we customers have not been abandoned, and that the lack of customer service is only temporary. You have built up enough good will with me over the years that I can accept that.

There is no need to address any of my other emails or phone calls now that I know what the situation is -- the issues raised in those emails are way too old and I have found other solutions without any help from BetterCGI.

But please, do let me know when you are through your current crunch, as I am very interested in purchasing the Clonebox service.

Thanks and good luck with the big push.

Vanished again

Ray, I am again trying to reach someone at your company about purchasing one of your services and again I am getting no response. I did receive an intial response to an inquiry about whether you have time to install a Clonebox. But a follow up email I sent has gotten no response. I have waited a reasonable amount of time, so I am appealing to you again directly here on these forums, as it seems this is the only way to get a hold of you at certain times. Can you assist? I want to give you some money every month, but I need your help on this to make it happen. Thanks!

Hello Enzob,

I'm afraid I'm a little confused, as in a quick review of our email correspondence, I found 2 or 3 replies sent to you over the past week. I'm also curious if you have our phone number correct, as I mainly answer the phones, but haven't received any calls from you. Please see our web site for contact information to be certain you have the correct phone number? If there's anything else we can help you with or if you have additional questions, we *are* here and we are doing our very best to address each email we receive in a timely manner. Thank you for your patience and understanding, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Thanks for the response. I am now again in contact with your people and we are back on track. I will follow up off-forum regarding the communication problems we have been experiencing.

I'm interested in a good alternative too.

Proxy Pass is amazing and you administer all of your sites from one install.

Penny24Seven 10-20-2012 11:41 AM

careful, you might get billed 150 bucks for asking a question. SB works great and I have bought it five times at least but I cannot use it on most my sites without paying 150 dollars an hour to answer a question or whatever it was

raymor 10-20-2012 01:42 PM

Re Brian's comment, support is $99 per YEAR. I assume he accidentally typed "hour" when he meant "year".

i assume he was talking about asking something without having subscribed to the support plan, which may cost up to $200/hour as mentionned in your support page.

Reality Studio 10-23-2012 09:45 AM

So...are there any good alternatives to Strongbox? Specifically for stuff like automatically detecting password sharing and temp banning some users, perma banning some users, blocking bot logins, etc. It's a really useful piece of software and I use it on all my websites, but I'm also having difficultly reaching them to Strongbox a new website so I'm trying to find an alternative to it that is as reliable as my websites get attacked daily.

mike741 10-23-2012 10:54 AM

alternative

Hello, i have a good alternative, it works in beta at the moment on any of my sites
please ask me for details: [email protected]
Believe me - you will be happy with this :)

B.A.I 10-25-2012 12:45 PM

I shooted strongbox support an email five days ago about issue during a server migration and about ordering a strongbox update, no answer....

well...i will definitely look into proxypass...i guess.

bean-aid 10-26-2012 10:09 PM

Ray, What's up? I shot an email as well awhile ago, not sure how long ago. You have good products, you need to answer emails and respond to them. I have myself and 2 other people relying on a server that I have no idea if protected or not.

Actually I do know, it's not. I switched servers and you didn't get back to me or my host.

If you read this Ray, you desperately need a ticket system and then stay on top of that system. You're going to start losing customers otherwise.

Ray has an awesome product and in the past was always excellent with support, but recently has totally dropped the ball with support. I've been waiting a week myself since my last email to them. It took my brother two months (yes, you read that right) to get a reply after multiple attempts to contact them, and he paid for their extra support. :Oh crap

Reality Studio 10-29-2012 10:17 AM

Does anyone have hands on experience with Proxypass? Like are they prompt with service, how long to install, and has it worked well compared to Strongbox? I see that it's been around for a long time which I like, I'm way too nervous to try something new, but I can't seem to find much more info on it.

B.A.I 10-29-2012 11:07 AM

I'm currently moving from strongbox to proxypass.

I'll do a review.

B.A.I 11-11-2012 03:23 PM

i moved to proxypass

So, I finally moved from strongbox to proxypass 2 weeks ago.

why? : moving to a new host => i got an old strongbox version => strongbox issue on the new server=> nobody from bettercgi answered my emails/requests/update order => time to find an alternative.

First of all, proxypass support is totally great, fast and reliable.
They scheduled an install time with my server admin easily and all went fine.
It took 4 days (it could have taken less: i ordered a friday night, my admin server wanted to monitor what they were doing. If i had sent them temp ssh access to the server right after they asked for it, it could have been installed in few hours)

Once it's done, they send you plenty of information regarding the software, the install and how to get started.

I had questions which were answered in few hours. Each time, They sent me a very (i mean VERY VERY) detailed explanation .

They even contacted me because they were thinking of a problem after visiting my website which was still using stongbox and not their software they just intsalled. (i still had not changed the dns at that time).

About the software itself :

it's seems to be a fine protection system. But I need more time to test its effectiveness. it looks promising.

As you may not know, proxypass is an apache module, which means it doesn't protect only one site, it protects all your server. It guards as many sites/areas as you want (members, admin, back office) without any additionnal setup/conf or fee.

it allows you to setup rules about download volumes, number of connections etc...(strongbox doesn't do that, you have to purchase throttle box, i believe)

The admin panel to manage blocks(IPs or usernames) is clean and simple, they could add some basic features though.

Until now, i'm more than happy. Especially because when i shoot an email to the support, i'm sure someone will answer it fast and nicely (even if i ask for silly things).

To my mind, proxypass is worth a try.

FINESEC 11-11-2012 03:45 PM

You might use those tools to check if your site is secure:
youtube.com/watch?v=cmKFrsOtDR4
youtube.com/watch?v=lk5Vt3cFJGs
youtube.com/watch?v=WgYymZS5EV8

Reality Studio 02-04-2013 09:38 PM

So it's been a few months now...still happy with Proxypass? Just wanted to get a longer term option of it, as I figure by now you've had time to have your sites attacked, etc so maybe it's had some real world testing by now.

Still happy but they really need to add more basic features in the admin area.
You should try it.
