Thought: The UK NHS makes people ill

When the NHS in the UK was set up, Labour stated that the cost would come down as people became healther.

Today the bill each year increases.

While its good that people get very good free health care, one could sugest that many people do not look after themselves as they know the state will.

By this people smoke and get fat and do no exersise. They know the NHS will look after them.

Thus one could sugest that if there was no NHS that people would fear being ill and thus not smoke and keep fit.

Thus the NHS encurages an unheathy society.

On top of this a lot of people like to feel they can get as much as they can for free and so will use the NHS as much as they can.

I thought it was soooo strage that the Olipics had a bit in it (i did not watch to be honest) about the NHS. Its almost that now we have pride in the fact we (in the UK) are so ill.

We also seem to have a hospital at the end of every street. I am in Leeds and I have within say 15 miles about 14 hospitals.

"Thought: The UK NHS makes people ill".......It certainly did in your case... "mentally ill"

Didn't you used to be a nurse there or something. ?

If you believe that then you're insane. The NHS does nothing but encourage healthy behaviour in people. They're forever posting out newsletters, taking out billboards, tv adverts about ways to be healthier.

No one but the people themselves encourages lazyness. It's an epidemic in the UK, too many fat ass people wanting the easy life. I know tons of people back home who sit on their ass all day pretending to be sick to collect their benefits when there is nothing wrong with them.

My next door neighbour bought her house 10 years ago, gets her mortgage paid for her, got the house for 20% of the value price and has never worked a day in her life. Meanwhile I pay full mortgage on my property and don't even live in the country. People need to start looking at their families and friends before blaming other services such as the NHS.

Of course people may act different knowing they will be taken care of. It's called moral hazard. It can apply to pretty much any kind of situation.

A student nurse.

I was in learning disability.

I left as I got fed up with the abuse of the system.

An example was one monther got the NHS to put a £70k lift in her house. She had never used it. She got it only as she could. She had a disabeled child who lived on the bottom floor of the house and so never needed the lift.

I came accross so many people using the NHS for what they could, it got me down and left.

I found that for a lot of people having a disabled kid was a great cash maker. They get so much from the state. This includes cars and a lot of cash.

It's Big Pharma that makes people sick, the NHS actually makes it more difficult for Big Pharma to damage us, as the NHS always wants to save money. Unfortunately there are also some backhanders and sneaky deals between the government (and hence NHS) and Big Pharma.
