help with bandwidth
 

hello i am a newbie webmaster and i have a video tube site where i stream videos from my server. I really don't have that much traffic 600 visitors a day but for some reason i am using ridiculous amounts of bandwidth 90 gb's a day! theres no way other video sites are using that much bandwidth. As i said im new so is there something im missing? another step? im pretty much just uploading videos (flv format) to my server and streaming using flowplayer. is there anything else i can do to greatly reduce bandwidth usage while streaming videos?

Sounds like somebody might be hot linking your FLV's.

If you give me the URL of the site i can check out if your FLV can be hotlinked or not
Your hosting company should be able to tell you where your bandwidth consumption comes from as well.

I have content in that niche you can use to promote us.

I have more than 10x more visitors per day on my tube and my bandwidth is 5x lower, so there is something wrong!

you're also embedding your videos, sounds like he's hosting his own...

i should also mention that the first two pages are videobam i attempted to upload there and embed but my visitors say it loads way too slow

have a look in your logs to see where the referrers are, and what else is pulling content. Can certainly hotlink all your WP uploads

I agree with him, I looked at this page:
and i was able to pull the FLV file URL here
and hotlink it from another site using hanaFLV player, that's probably what's going on, htaccess for the WIN!

Oh and btw, the GIF's located here are probably also pulling a nice amount of BW

ok thank everybody for the help, but what ive done is go with pacific host because they allow ffmpeg but hostgator doesnt. i think not having ffmpeg was affecting how much bandwidth i used while streaming video. im gonna upload my videos there and embed on my site on hostgator. im still trying to stop hotlinking and i am also blocking my directories
