also not looking for fake diamonds and shit , actually think the new black diamonds are pretty neat

L-Pink 08-30-2012 02:13 PM

I think the industry norm is to spend 2 months salary on a weekend of blow and hookers ... something like that.

.

I just know that they sponsor Leo LaPorte's This Week In Tech show around valentine's day. Guess the sponsorship worked, cos it's fucking ages past Feb 14 and I still remember the URL.

Bluenile online has awesome return policies and such. That's what we went with for our stuff. Maybe make sure you know what her style is first, though :)

kristin 08-30-2012 02:25 PM

For when you are done browsing online ... If you have any outlets near you, there are usually a Zales or Jared outlet and they are decent quality for a good price.

That two months salary shit is stupid unless your lady is high maintenance. I'd much rather have a reasonable ring and go on an engagement vacation.

never buy from some local store, they mark it up 10 times at least. I have been making high end diamond jewelry for years. For 4K you can make the most pimp ring anyone will ever see. 3-4 cttw FG color VS2-SI1

has the gem show in Tucson already passed? buying a loose diamond wholesale can be a great way to go and design the ring around it

LOL no I mean total weight, I buy in bulk so I can get some really nice 1.5ct stones and then put some 45 point stones on each side, maybe 2 on each side and then a matching band with 5 more 45 point diamonds and you have almost 6 carats of diamonds that have so much bling they will think you are a rapper.
A sweet 1.5ct stone will be around 3K though so it would be a little more then 4K but make the side stones 30 points or something. I just made one like this but it has a matching band on both sides of the main ring and comes to 8+ carats. You can see it from a mile away

I say it is a must to have a jeweler make one because these stores are fucking crazy with their prices and lies. uniquesettings.com is a site you can get some good ideas from.

saw a nice 1940 rnd cut .5 Ct claw mount in platinum with good colour/flaw (prolly h/vs2) go for £500 at auction today which is mad.

I'm guessing your 3-4ct is a cluster? I have a drill bit that is diamond crusted too ;)

to OP don't forget though it's 3xMontly salary, otherwise you wont get anal

I just assumed people knew what cttw was but it could be different in other areas. I am talking a 1.5ct center stone and maybe 4 side stones about 40-45 points and a matching band with 5 more matching side stones, It makes for a killer ring. Here is one that is just over 5 carats total weight.

If she means that much to you then buy whatever she'll like.

I like this response!

anexsia 08-30-2012 09:01 PM

I got mine one of those $0.25 rings from the Toys 'R Us toy machines and used the leftover $2,000 to buy hookers and blow. Remember, it's the thought that counts!

Slick 08-30-2012 09:10 PM

I agree about the local jewlery stores ripping you off. I was just looking with my gf a couple of weeks ago and found a nice band then she wanted to put a Pink Saphire into the ring, so they pulled in a 1.2 ct pink saphire and wanted $1,299 for it, then for the band, which was 18k white gold, and I'm not sure about the weight, they wanted another $1,999, so $3298 which doesn't include the matching wedding band which is another $1499, damn. When I first got married, 12 years ago, I think I paid $800 for the ring, times sure change, ha ha.

I dont understand why people buy engagement rings. What about all this equality bullshit women rant about, yet they want a fucking ring. If they want a ring so much buy it themselves.

spunking xtimes monthly salary on some crap, is she going to buy you something with xtimes her salary?

Your by far rich and want to get married? WHY? Better get a pre nup

CurrentlySober 08-31-2012 03:49 AM

Gonna throw in my 2 cents on marriage... And I truly believe what I'm gonna type...

IMHO, All life is based around a 7 year cycle. ie:

0 = Newborn - Unable to do ANYTHING for oneself...
7 = Child - Still needing help, but can feed itself, use toilet etc...
14 = Teenager - Independent (ish) - Own views and ideas etc...
21 = Man - Grown up, but still green to the world
28 = Mature man - Starting to understand what is what...
35 = Almost middle aged - Knows what is what now.... Hoping for a better future, at a later age....
42 = Grown Man. Half Life has passed - Starts looking to future - Considering own mortality...
49 = Looking toward caring for offspring etc...
ETC ETC...

My Point being that EVERY SEVEN YEARS- We become a different person, with different values and concerns...

So... Thats why they say the 7 year itch... Why get 'Married' to someone, who in 7 years, will be a totally different person?

You will also be a totally different person... So... Aside from companionship.. What is the point?

I'd never get married again - This ISNT the dark ages, where you 'live in sin'...

Just stay together, for as long as you or her want to, then, 14 / 21 / 28 years down the road, you can part, if you are different people... No need to legally stay together...

Sure, if you STILL WANT TO BE TOGETHER - More power to you ! ENJOY...

But, if not... Just part with minimal hassle...

Just my genuine opinion...

I've spent $500 on the ring I gave to my gf. It has a small but nice diamond, and we are both central-european 'adults' and neither of us supports spending grands on a fancy ring.. I don't have an engage ring, some guys have one, I think its unnecessary and kinda gay too. The engagement is now 1.5 yr old, the wedding is not planned yet, we just want both our kids [2 girls] to remember and LOVE it, and as the younger one is just 2.5 nowadays we have time.. Also we have an 'agreement' to first finish our house and Then think about a date, etc... The building process has just began, we'll move in next summer, so no need to rush.. Long engagement rocks :pimp
