Mark, I lived in South Carolina from 1992 to 2008. My wife's family lives in the mountains of North Carolina.

Now over at Myrtle Beach and Charleston in South Carolina....and Charlotte and Raleigh in North Carolina, the people are well educated and "modern".

But the rest of the Carolina's is people who live in the mountains and foothills. And they ALL think Obama is a Muslim. They aren't very well educated and don't WANT to be. They are mountain folk and they are different than anybody you know.

In the last couple of decades they have become victims of a meth epidemic in those little country towns in the mountains and many, many of them are on some kind of welfare and/or foodstamps even though they are perfectly fit to work.

They are what we called "white trash" before it became politically incorrect to say such things.

Having been around those kind of people throughout the 1990's and 2000's gave me a real perspective on how federal dollars really do get wasted on people who can and would work if they weren't being given free housing and a check from the govt. every week.

It's disgusting. And even funnier is how those people HATE black people and accuse THEM of being on welfare...all the while getting govt. checks themselves!

I agree that Obama should get the credit for taking out Bin Laden.

EVERY act of war that we have ever done...from the war of 1812 to WW1 to Clinton ordering missile strikes around the world to Bush invading Afghanistan and Iraq to Obama ordering the "surge" and killing Bin Laden has ALL been with the President "partaking" (giving the orders, watching, and getting reports...which is what Pres. Obama did)

I understand they are not as eventful in Montreal because there was no riot and only one shooting but can you do the rest of us a favor and pick a different subject? I understand why you are so left leaning considering the people in Quebec live off the teat of the other provinces and you have a sense of entitlement for doing nothing.

I lived there for 16 years. I know literally thousands of people there. The majority of mountain people are the way I described it. It's a culture that people who may have never lived in that kind of area don't have a clue about.

But it paints ALL of the people in Carolina that way. And they are not. As I said...in the bigger areas of the Carolinas the people are not that way. But the ones who live in trailers and shanty's in the mountains are very, very biased in their opinions and not very worldly in their knowledge

That photo was from the "Situation Room" in the WhiteHouse. Same room that Reagan monitored the situation and was in contact with his generals during Grenada and Panama. The same one that George H. Bush ordered the first Gulf war. Same room that Clinton used during his missile strikes in Eastern Europe and Iraq. Same one that George W. Bush used for his wars.

So was I from 1992 to 2008. And my wife was born and raised there. Doesn't change the character of a large group of people in the Upstate of South Carolina and the mountains of North Carolina.

Not everyone is like that of course that lives in that area...but a LOT of them are. And that's the kind of people that get you that "15% of NC Republicans" poll answer.

I was actually trying to say that the majority of people in the Carolinas are NOT like that. But that one mountain and foothill region is heavily populated by people who are pretty much white trash living on the govt. dole and addicted to alcohol, cigarettes, and meth.

Anybody who has lived there can attest to that portion of the population in that area.

I once went on a road trip through the US, car broke down on a four lane highway, I think it was Kentucky or Tennessee. This was long before cellphones, not much traffic going by, left my travelling companion by the car to flag down a cop or somebody - I saw a dirt gravel road on the other side of the side barrier of the highway and nothing but trees - so I decided to walk down that road to see what was there - walked a few hundred yards and then the road turned right and upward, walked up the hill and when i made it to the top, my jaw dropped. i don't think i'd ever seen quite what I saw depicted in any movie or on the news - hillbillies, a whole community of them, shacks - this wasn't white trash in trailers or Dukes of Hazzard - this was like a whole hidden or lost civilization i was seeing. there was no city and town nearby I don't think, i wondered where they got their food, did the kids go to school, did they have social security cards, does the government even know they exist.

no, i didn't walk into the community, it didn't look like they had phones or electricity, i was kind of scared - the shacks were in a big circle facing inwards, not sure if i even saw any cars or trucks.
