NFL Refs have the upper hand now

Since the first week of the NFL you can tell the replacement refs have no clue what's really going on and the crash course they got on how to referee the NFL just didn't work.

IMO, it's not the replacement ref's fault, it's a very tough game to manage and without the years of experience, they just look like idiots out their on the field. However, after this past weekends game, including the one from Monday night, there is NO WAY they are going to back down on their demands. They see how much they fill-in ref's are fucking up and they are just sitting back laughing.

I read each ref makes about $5k or so per game and they are asking for $6k plus some better benefits and to eliminate the "ref benching" rule. At this point, I would say give them a 20% pay increase and say if you start fucking up to much, your out of the game!

Its coming to the point now where they are going to cost teams like Green Bay the opportunity to make it to the playoffs with shitty and wrong calls.

I cant even tell you how much money i have lost because of these refs. I Had PATS ML sunday night and that bullshit call of pass interference and then the field goal that wasnt good directly over the post lost me $500. In all honesty, I am not betting until the old refs are back. I even read one of the refs went up to the RB for the Eagles Lesean and said "I have you on my fantasy team". Good luck today and he was reffing the fucking game.

yeah its bad and not only the players suffer, but so do the fans. every station from Radio to ESPN is bitching about the refs. the NFL failed badly on this one and just shows how greedy people really are when it comes to giving up a little bit of their massive profits to make a huge population happy.

I read this morning that last night's blown call cost people betting on the Packers $250 million

Last night was it. Forget the last call, how about pass interference on number 26 on defense? Oh wait, number 27 on offense. Oh wait there was no number 27.

the owners still have the upper hand. Until they start feeling it in their pocket books they'll keep playing hardball with the refs. Stadiums are still being filled and tv ratings are up, and revenue hasn't been hurt

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- The NFL has removed a replacement official from the New Orleans-Carolina game because it discovered he's a Saints fan.

Side judge Brian Stropolo has been replaced by an alternate, Tim Keese. The NFL made the decision Sunday morning just hours before kickoff.

"He was replaced because of the information that surfaced disclosing that he is a Saints fan," league spokesman Michael Signora said.

The league will look further into the matter. It received several phone calls and emails about Stropolo, who is from New Orleans and posted several photos of himself in Saints gear tailgating at a preseason game on his Facebook page.

Stropolo worked the Week 1 NFL opener between the Cowboys and Giants.

ESPN was first to report the news.

The NFL locked out the regular officials in June after their contract expired. Negotiations with the NFL Referees Association broke down several times during the summer, including just before the season, and the league is using replacements for the first time since 2001.

Back then, the lockout lasted for one week of the regular season before a settlement was reached. This is the second weekend the replacements are being used, and the NFL has drawn up a five-week schedule for using them if the labor dispute is not resolved.

Last week, there was one major error by the replacement officials, when they awarded Seattle an extra timeout in the final minutes of a game at Arizona. The Cardinals held on to win and the crew's referee admitted the mistake after the game.

As a fellow sportsbooker, I can tell you if you are betting on ANY of the games right now in the NFL, you are making a huge error.

Not only do I not bet on games before the 3rd week, there's no way in hell I would bet on these games with these buffoon referees.

Hold on to your money until this is over and the season settles into the groove man.

:2 cents:

Bad calls are going both ways, so I doubt you lost any money due to the replacement refs. What's really in danger is the game itself, and sooner or a later a player is going to get seriously injured due to this.

For Halloween I am going to dress up as a substitute ref and spend all night making bad decisions.

Ya that game last night was out of hand! when for 2 hours after the game the only thing ESPN was still talking about was the last play of the game, that's messed up.. I felt like it was another terrorist attack on the US or something the way they were reporting on it.

To me the craziest part of this whole thing is the amount of money the owners and the league are complaining about. To give the refs what they want it would cost each team about $100K per year. That is $3.2 million for the full league. The league has revenues of around $9.5 billion per year and growing. That means paying the real refs is like .3% of the league income.
