Google Disavow tool = Google crowdsource bad link source detection?

There's been a lot of drama on many SEO forums and blogs lately regarding what the recent release of Google's Disavow tool means. In light of Penguin, it is not too hard to see where they are coming from.

Do you think it's a good idea to use this tool? Sure, you might get a quick bump up, but will it last?

No. Say you've got yourself caught by the police with some dope. You've managed to drop a major chunk in the woods before you got busted. It's not enough to get a serious charge but you are being questioned.

Would you tell them where exactly you've dropped the rest of the dope?

To fix Penguin penalty, fix your link profile. Deleting link isn't going to help.

You have a point. Considering how heavy the dilution must be, deleting links isn't going to make much of a dent. Also, it gives Google all the intel they need to wipe out large networks. :Oh crap

I wouldn't use the link disavow tool until I see more feedback with results from webmaster that already tried it.

completely agree. there has been a lot of discussion in our forum about how disavow will be the fixer and seemingly resuscitate sites that got hit bad. not a chance.

however, i would be interested to know if 'cleaner' sites that have used the tool have fared since the more recent updates. I believe there was supposed to be a panda refresh around the 20th November?
