Comodo Internet Security Premium along with the occasional manual scan using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware just to be sure that you always sleep like a baby.

SGS 12-01-2012 07:57 AM

AVAST is utter shit. The only reason people think that it works is because they have no idea whats living on their computer...

geedub 12-01-2012 08:27 AM

ms security essentials is free and gets the job done

The Heron 12-01-2012 09:12 AM

I've always been told to NEVER ever run two antivirus programs at the same time. It can mess up your pc or something like that@

These two both run together fine as far as I am aware.

It's the on access scanning component which can cause problems when both are enabled. Basically each time a file is accessed it is automatically scanned. When you have two anti-virus programs scanning automatically in this way it can cause noticeable delays and at times mess things up badly if something screws up and they interact poorly with one another. What people usually do is disable one of the on access scanners and use the other one just for manual scans.

Minte 12-01-2012 10:39 AM

Security essentials. All those other *free* ones update then beat you down with popups until you either buy the license or delete it and then go to security essentials.

cybermike 12-01-2012 11:12 AM

I'm happy with avast.. has stopped plenty of website hacks and trojans

Cam94 12-01-2012 12:50 PM

Use Linux Mint, I've been virus free for over a year now, you can even run windows within linux if you just have to have windows

Klen 12-01-2012 01:01 PM

I run security essentials + malware antibytes + noscript firefox extension.

ErectMedia 12-01-2012 01:07 PM

I use to run Kaspersky Pure 2.0 Total Security but after upgrade to Windows 8 lost a few features like firewall etc... so switched to Bit Defender Total Security 2013

The Sultan Of Smut 12-01-2012 03:57 PM

Go with AVG.

CYF 12-01-2012 04:00 PM

AVG used to be fucking awesome. IT's not that great anymore.

I would prefer MSE or Avast.

Same here, i love the combination, and will never change it

oscer 12-01-2012 04:06 PM

MSE is good !

Matt 26z 12-01-2012 04:57 PM

The best antivirus is your own common sense. I haven't needed an AV program in years.

I just upload potentially suspicious files to jotti.org and it goes through like 20 different scans there.

HomerSimpson 12-01-2012 06:29 PM

http://www.filehorse.com/download-pa...oud-antivirus/ - free, very easy to use
http://www.filehorse.com/download-antivir/ - free has some nags, not bad
http://www.filehorse.com/download-avg-antivirus/ - free, has some nags

and the most important free tool (a must have) is
http://www.filehorse.com/download-ma...-anti-malware/

AVG 2013 Free is better.

5 star CNET rating. Enough said.

Aric 12-01-2012 07:22 PM

MSE and Malwarebytes combo is the best.

Screw all those other "free" programs (and most of the paid ones too).

Malwarebytes is the one exception to the 'don't run two programs at once' rule. I'm not sure exactly why, but mwb scans don't interfere with any other antivirus program, so it's safe to use alongside any other option

for any other combo it's def smart to use the techinque described above

it detect one of my software as virus while it's clean (and i know it)

get a real antivirus and pay it for what it worthes

seeandsee 12-08-2012 11:18 AM

comodo and avira

Antonio 12-08-2012 12:56 PM

I've ran both on quite a few PCs, so if I have to sum it up - Essentials catches fwwer threats, but it is unobtrusive, so it gets my 5 stars, while AVG will get 4+

AVAST - I seriously wish somebody sued these cockroaches to the ground, one of their previous verisions was cutting off your Internet connection when a threat was found, no warnings, nothing, fuck them; not touhcing their shit ever again

marlboroack 12-08-2012 02:49 PM

None of them are good. Just buy Norton.

DraX 12-08-2012 07:47 PM

Personally I dont use free antivirus, I did when I was a student back in the days though.
Here's a list of free antivirus and other paid security software.

By the way I got 1600 days left on my bitdefender license

Look Chang 12-09-2012 08:25 PM

I have tried all of them and I definitively prefer AVG

I actually run a PC repair / virus removal business as my mainstream company...

I would recommend a multi layered approach to get the best coverage

Paid Antivirus / Firewall + Microsoft Security Essentials as your primary running side by side

Malwarebytes + Spybot as your weekly, monthly maintenance scanners

I've seen many things get past AVG Free, AVAST, Comodo....etc.....honestly..it costs $40 for a 3 pc copy of McAfee for a year.....if you can't afford that...your in the wrong business here....

Personally I go with McAfee for home and their Security As A Service for my business clients...

Norton is just is a pain in the ass, its spread to far across the system dealing with windows services that it doesn't even need to...and it just is too intensive load on the system process for what it actually does...

VenusBlogger 12-09-2012 09:03 PM

NORTON is good, but takes too much resources if not configured properly.

AVG sucks, I tried both the free and premium, BOTH SUCK so much, the update feature always hangs, and has lots of problems... Cant believe some people use it, when it has so much problems.

Im going to try KASPERSKY and Microsoft Essentials next.

DigitalTheory 12-09-2012 09:24 PM

Mse ..........

TrashyGirl 12-09-2012 09:39 PM

Avast

Weekly Scans: Malware Bytes, Spybot S&D, Ad Aware

Chrome & Firefox: NoScript

Supz 12-09-2012 10:14 PM

MSE for sure

Maybe you're being sarcastic but Norton basically is a virus.
