Thanks for the WONDERFUL XMas Present of 16+ Hours of Downtime Mojohost!

I love spending my Holiday trying to get support when all of my sites and email are down.

Thanks!

Voodoo 12-26-2012 12:21 AM

Your support / ticket system isn't loading anymore. Seems to be down.

You spent YOUR holidays, waiting for them to fix your problem. Aren't your holidays THEIR holidays too? Then you went out of your way to start a thread on a very visible forum called
"Thanks for the WONDERFUL XMas Present of 16+ Hours of Downtime Mojohost!"

You know that Mojo has a pretty good reputation (if not the best) in the adult arena. Whatever the problem was with your server(s), it was most definitely an accident (perhaps by you?) Who knows. Why then would you deliberately try to trash their reputation?

Now they fixed your problem, OVER CHRISTMAS, and thats all you've got to say to them? I would have offered up a nicer apology than this one. Just sayin'.

I know, right? It's so silly to expect a service you are paying for to be working during holidays. Shame on him for being upset about it!

Sorry, it wasn't "my" problem. I pay for their service to host my sites and keep them online. They had hardware issues. Not my "problem".

I went out of my way after 16.5 hours of downtime and then their support system died. Yes, I started a thread. I was very irritated. It's my business that was down the entire day as well as my client projects and other work.

Good reputation, yes. Good hosting, so far I have had a number of issues. Best, debatable.

I'm not trying to trash their reputation. You don't know the full story. I was on with their support off and on the entire day, then finally their support system failed.

I owe nobody an apology. I am their customer and the service I was getting was not quality, ESPECIALLY on Christmas, it should have been a lot better considering. All is resolved now, which was indicated earlier in this thread. And again, it wasn't my problem. It was theirs.

Agreed.

I love Brad and MOJO as much as the next guy. They are one of the best in the business. I think they do an excellent job. That said, you're paying for a 24/7/365 service. Not a holidays optional hosting plan.

For most webmasters, if your site is offline, your BUSINESS is offline. Your website is your store front, and it's open 24/7/365. I do not believe that most webmasters are going to tell you that being offline for 16+ hours is acceptable regardless of what they pay for hosting.

The thread was resolved. It could've just fallen to the next page. You, a person who has nothing to do with it keeps it at the top of the page just because you feel the need for attention. Which is worse? just sayin' (and yes i'm fully aware that I just bumped it too, however i'm not the one bitching about the OP)

Being upset and giving them shit about it is one thing. But posting about it with a title like that is not helpful to anyone, especially mojohost. All it does is make him (Voodoo) feel better.

No. I said it was definitely an accident. By this I mean none at mojohost (or your orgniziation) caused the problem you had on purpose. Maybe it was human error, or a bad machine or component, who knows, you didn't share the details.

What was the problem they had exactly? I assume it was a big problem as it took a while to fix. Can you share the details? Did your customers complain, and did you get any chargebacks because of it?

What does Mojohost's SLA say? Maybe you are due a credit of some kind. Wouldn't the credit you are owed make you happy? If not, why? The SLA is what you agreed to after all.

You said you were down for 16.5 hours, and whatever the problem was, their own support system was down too. If it had been me, I would have said something like "Wow! We had a problem but Mojo fixed the problem in less than 1 day, and they did it over Christmas too!" But thats just me I guess.

Anyway look I'm not trying to jump on you. If you feel this way I apologize and take it all back. I just don't think Mojo deserves the slam you gave them, especially since you haven't told anyone what the real problem was.

Happy holidays.

GFY is a public discussion board. Voodoo made his issue public with a rather explosive title "Thanks for the WONDERFUL XMas Present of 16+ Hours of Downtime Mojohost!". He didn't need to post it. And I'm not bumping it with a simple BUMP message others might. I'm stating what I feel and asking questions, thats all. No bitching.

Thats because youre an ass kisser. Why would a customer apologize to a service provider. Because they did there job. Yes mojo has a good reputation but I would not apologize for resolved downtime. Makes no sense. They should apologize to him for having 16 hours of downtime.

This is the dumbest thing ever, and I am sure "Thats just not me". That thinks this. 1/2 a day of unscheduled downtime is not a little amount of time. Getting it fixed in that period of time is not good work for a host, and when you are running a business, providing a service where other business rely on you to stay in business, A holiday is not a good excuse. I understand that Mojo isnt making this excuse, you are making it for them. But you arent helping them here, and you sure arent helping yourself as you sell a service as well. We all know Mojo has a good rep on this board and in real life. But 16.5 hours down is a lot. Its almost a DAY. Stop ass kissing and come back to reality.

lol, the hair I found on my Big Mac the other day was an accident too I'm sure. I PAID for the burger sans hair. Trying to blame ME for the hair would only make matters worse.

Mojohost owes HIM an apology no MATTER the reason. Not the other way around.

livexxx 12-26-2012 07:20 PM

:) had full uptime over christmas with MOJO +

I also asked for a Rabbit MQ server to be set up on christmas eve if they could, they did that too, with a status rep on xmas day that they escalated to another dev, up on boxing day ++

Just in case though we also have round robin DNS with dns-made-easy to another host , just in case. IMHO the buck stops at my desk, if a supplier goes down, I've got duality built in myself.

So this would have been my story , Mojo went down, my DNS swapped to an alternate host in 5 mins already running a master-master SQL and rsync, nothing happened much. Down alert auto posted to mojo support desk just in case they hadnt noticed.
Mojo would have come back, auto DNS switched back in 5 mins after 3 successful tests passed. Auto regression suite tests ran on teamcity, all passed, nothing much happened. Party with family interrupted by text message that reads "All OK , systems online, 872 of 872 tests passed"

Check out DNS round robin, SimpleTest or PHPUnit and teamcity with a Jenkins build server somewhere in the loop. get some master-master SQL and a Rsync and you don't actually have to worry about your bread and butter going down ever. Your techies should be on this for 2013.

Hosts have no holidays, we all.. work 24/7 or have staff that does. We look over your stuff while your sleeping, on vacation and taking a dump.

We have no holidays or vacation.

I'll respond more fully tomorrow. I'm sorry you had downtime. I didnt realize when we were talking this morning and your problem was fixed you were sporting an awful thread on GFY. Let's talk Thursday about what VPS host I'm buying your next two years of service from. I apologize that we offered this as a product to you when it wasn't. I thought we would do better for you, like everyone else. My bad, we own it.

Sincerely,

Brad

Brad has always been stand-up. Honestly, I posted this thread because I was highly irritated at the time for a number of reasons. Brand handled it shortly after, but my "Delete Thread" time had already expired. So I posted that it had been resolved.

I think the money that customers pay are also good on holidays. Yup, just checked - money work every day of the year, 24/7! Wow, imagine that.

im not surprised you feel this way considering there have been several posts over the years here from your unhappy customers. when you expect the customer to be happy that the service was down for less than a day it is clear you dont hold companies to high standards and feel the customer should be happy with what ever he gets.:warning
