OMG Over 3 Hours on hold with Air Canada. WTF

Incredible - worst customer service in history. Over 3 hours on hold with Air Canada just to make a chance in flight. Total bullshit.

In contrast : Waited less than 5 minutes for Apple technical support last week. And they only have about a billion more customers than Air Canada.

geedub 01-08-2013 08:10 PM

I was going to put something cocky about how it's a shame apple doesn't handle Air Canada's custie support but it looks like you're onto that already.

Rebel D 01-09-2013 08:47 AM

Westjet is great, but they don't fly everywhere...

PR_Glen 01-09-2013 08:55 AM

yeah westjet rules but mostly inter canadian flights. wish they would expand.

AC sucks. seriously over priced.

Choopa_Pardo 01-09-2013 08:56 AM

No phone conversation could possibly be worth three hours of hold time. I would hang up and book with a different airline.

Choopa Phil 01-09-2013 08:56 AM

After that fiasco I would have asked for a supervisor to bump up my flight status. Time is money and 3 hours is unacceptable

Phoenix 01-09-2013 09:03 AM

they blow...i bet you have to pay to change your flight time as well.

i have so many miles on aeroplan i keep on booking there...just booked another china trip..im hoping to get elite status this year..lol

Interestingly...

http://bc.ctvnews.ca/angry-customers...plan-1.1104441

"A class action lawsuit is underway against Aeroplan to force the rewards program to reinstate lost points and compensate angry consumers who were shocked to discover their points had an expiry date."

" The points had expired because Aeroplan quietly changed the rules a few years back. If you don't earn or redeem points in a year, you now lose them.

"Not everyone travels within a one year span. So if you don't travel within the one year they take away the points and you didn't know about that," said lawyer Josh Merchant.

Merchant's law firm is spearheading a class action lawsuit claiming Aeroplan didn't adequately inform customers about the policy change.

"We allege they basically tricked the people into losing their air miles. Aeroplan isn't losing any sleep if you are losing your air miles," said Merchant.

Aeroplan started out as Air Canada's frequent flyer program. Now it's owned by a company called Aimia. That company sells Aeroplan miles to its business partners to offer their customers as an incentive. When customers redeem the miles, Aeroplan uses the money from air mile sales to buy Air Canada seats. So any miles earned, but not redeemed, are pure profit for Aeroplan.

"People are angry about this. People within my own firm are angry about this. A lot of people are affected. A lot of people use Aeroplan. A lot of people use air miles," said Merchant.

"I'd like to see people who've lost their points without their knowledge really, get them reinstated," said Boome.

Aeroplan's expiration policy also applies to any mile that's not used seven years from the date it was earned. The class action lawsuit demands Aeroplan reinstate expired points, and compensate consumers.

If you would like to get involved in the class action lawsuit you will have to sign up with the Merchant Law Group.

There is no financial cost to join the class action. Aeroplan says it has strong arguments against the lawsuit and will vigorously defend itself."

yeah they change rules all the time...however you only need to fill your gas tank up to reset your year.
I travel 4-5 times a year to long distance spots..what bit my ass is they dropped the number of points..so flying around the world with them 4-5 times a year now...they dont really care to keep me....so i flip flop between air canada and korean air..depending on where im going exactly

O MARINA 01-09-2013 09:21 AM

yikes.....

Validus 01-09-2013 09:21 AM

I assume you don't have Elite or Super Elite status. Usually I get service pretty quick, but sometimes it is horrible too. So status makes things a bit better, but it's Air Canada after all. What do you expect?

WestJet is alright, but no business/first class :(

Key word here being "Canada".

If we run into the each other at the shows introduce yourself to me. I've always wanted to meet you. (And also beat you over the head for your conspiracy theory minded nut of an employee too!)

96ukssob 01-09-2013 09:48 AM

Happened to me years ago with US Airways. I was booking a trip from LAX to PHL and somehow go booked to LAX - PIT. I made this flight all the time and told them it was an error but they refused to believe me, even when I showed them proof.

Over 5 hours total on the phone and most of that was on hold!

I swear airlines do this just so you get frustrated and say fuck it, I'll buy another ticket.

CurrentlySober 01-09-2013 09:50 AM

i cant afford to jump out the window... let alone fly with an airline... :(

directfiesta 01-09-2013 09:58 AM

Called AC Monday at 1:30 am to cancel a flight I booked for the wrong month... waited 5 minutes for an agent .... smooth ...
Leaving on Wesjet , returning on AC .... great low cost .

Fat Panda 01-09-2013 10:01 AM

never had a problem with AC

scuba steve 01-09-2013 10:03 AM

yeah i would've hung up

Sid70 01-09-2013 10:08 AM

You have balls of steel waiting for that long.

prezzz 01-09-2013 10:13 AM

I've just read that earlier this week Ryan Air plane took off half hour early from Polish airport without clearance, leaving 20 people on the ground. That's some great customer care as well.

PornMD 01-09-2013 10:16 AM

It's a ********** post and he mentions something about Apple - what a shocker!

ajrocks 01-09-2013 02:13 PM

AC sucks donkey balls. I was a dedicated AC traveler for years but after constant bad service, and crazy lines I'll never fly them again.

It's too bad since as Canadians we always have to bail them out from going under, and yet they never learn.

Where are you located? from Calgary westjet fly's almost anywhere

fuzebox 01-09-2013 04:23 PM

I end up taking AC now and then because of my Star Alliance miles... Every time I regret it, then I forget...

Theo 01-10-2013 10:58 AM

I've been flying with Mac Airlines, you should give it a try!

wait a minute Mark. you should be thanking air canada for the opportunity to provide transportation to you. remember you are the person who thinks the customer is always wrong and should be grateful to the business for providing them a service. not counting your countless disgruntled customers, but do you remember your recent post where you said the guy whos hosting went down during christmas should have thanked the hosting company for only having his sites offline for 1 day. yeah that's right you are THAT guy. so why you complaining about air canada and not thanking them for getting back to you 3 hours later, they could have left you on hold for a whole day!
