How Do You Guarantee Your Internet Connection?

I have two broadband lines, a DSL line, a dial-up line and Hughes satellite, free Wifi at the bars I frequent, plus access to local WiFi, courtesy idiots who do not secure their home WiFi connections.

What have you?

A whole neighborhood to choose from. :thumbsup

Only an idiot would worry about that. If my internet goes down, it's never for more than a few hours. At which, I can usually get on with life or in dire need tether a phone or use the neighbors open Wifi connection.

No. Once lost broadband for a week due to a storm which took down about a mile of overhead wires killing both phone and cable.

I mainly use the library but they are closed on Sundays and in the evenings on Saturdays so then I use either the Starbucks or McDonalds. Both are within 200 yards of the bridge so I get pretty good reception. Great trash bins too :thumbsup

If power is out for a week I've obviously got lore important issues to address aside from my Internet connection.

I'm not some lonely old man pretending to be other people for attention, so I could live a few days without being online.

I get my internet from my HOA really. They've gone down twice, once last week, only for half an hour or so. Pretty impressive really.

Didn't say power was out. I have an 1800 RPM 12KW backup genny which ran for about three days. Power lines were not too badly damaged so power was back on well before telly, etc.

I just have a cheap smart phone with unlimited data, that I can tell to be a hotspot if I need it...

You pay for 2 Broadband lines in case one goes down???

Wow...
Never had more than 15 minutes downtime

When Hurricane Sandy wiped us out for 2 weeks here we got a few of those T Mobile hotspots with data cards and used them

On the rare instances I lose my Business Class cable internet connection, I can always tether my laptop through my smartphone on 3G or 4G. It's fast enough to check emails and such.

CYF 01-12-2013 08:23 PM

If my home connection goes down there's coffee shops, or I can tether to my phone.

If I needed something because of an extended outage, I'd drive over to Target down the street and pick up one of those pre-paid 4G dongles for the laptop and use that for a couple weeks if I had to.
