Lamborghini Murcielago and Nissan GT-R Hit Head on in Central FL - Two Killed

http://www2.tbo.com/news/news/2013/f...pol-ar-624418/

About 40 miles east of here, a few exotics got together on a fairly empty stretch of road... guy lets his female friend drive his Lamborghini, and she wipes out, goes through the median and hits a GT-R head on. Both in the Lambo are killed, one in the GT-R clinging to life, the other had relatively minor injuries (think he had a broken leg).

He was 24 also... family owns a lot of land in that area, cattle ranches, etc.

Has a really large house not far from where the accident was.

I read on a Lambo forum that he inherited money from his parents (whom supposedly were both killed in a previous car accident)... :Oh crap

Quote:

PINELLAS PARK, Florida - On crutches, Phat Phan moves slowly on Monday, but after surviving a horrific two-car crash near Lakeland, it's amazing the 22-year-old is moving at all.

"I see blood everywhere, everything's broken, glass broken," says Phan about the moment he regained consciousness inside the Nissan he was riding in.

Sunday was supposed to be a fun day for Phan. His friend, 43-year-old Mike Chan, had been invited to a Super Bowl party in Winter Haven. But mid-afternoon, some party guests with exotic cars and the party's host suggested going on a cruise.

Phan says five or six cars began cruising in the area. Phan was a passenger in Chan's Nissan, and party host Samuel Hampton was in his green 2008 Lamborghini Murcielago. A friend of Hampton's, Tiffany Beene, 24, was driving the Lamborghini.

Phan says along the way the cars started taking different routes, but when the Nissan was on University Boulevard, he suddenly saw a flash of green coming toward them. The Lamborghini crossed the median of the divided road and slammed into the Nissan.

"All of a sudden, I see this green Lamborghini on the opposite side lose control ... coming at us really fast, so fast you can't react to it," describes Phan.

A photograph of the Lamborghini shows it flattened by the impact. Police say debris from the crash stretched 1,000 feet along the roadway.

Beene was killed in the crash. Her family from Kissimmee does Christian missionary work in Guatemala. Hampton also died in the crash.

Chan was seriously injured and, on Monday, underwent surgery at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. The hospital is not releasing his condition at the request of his family. Chan manages the Hiro's Tokyo restaurant in St. Petersburg.

As for Phan, he's nursing bumps, bruises, and a broken foot. But he knows he's the lucky one. "It makes you think," he says. "Your life is like a candle; it can go out in a blow."

If that is true abotu his parents, that is pretty sad.

There are quite a few youtube videos of a green twin turbo lambo with a very young guy driving it.

He had two Lamborghinis, an Audi (R8, I believe), among others... he liked his cars I guess.

Females should be barred from driving cars over a certain HP.

What's the chances of a Lambo meeting a GT-R head-on like that?

Check my post above. The owner of the Lambo was hosting a Super Bowl party, and the occupants of the GT-R were guests at the Lambo drivers party - a group of cars went out for a cruise, when the accident occurred.

Not completely a coincidence... :2 cents:

Pretty girl:

http://www.baynews9.com/content/dam/...3/02/beene.jpg

BTW, I saw a news article (as opposed to a Lambo forum) which indicated this about Samuel Hampton's family:

Quote:

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said Samuel Hampton was adopted as a child by Lynn Hampton, who, along with her twin sister, Leigh Hampton, are prominent Winter Haven residents.

"I have known the Hamptons for a very long time," Judd said. "Sam was the light of her life. It just breaks my heart."

Judd said one of the Samuel Hampton's hobbies was collecting sports cars.
Not sure if he paid for his car hobby or his parent(s) did.

It doesn't matter about age it matters about if the person is a fucking idiot or not that doesn't care if they kill someone on the road.

I think many of us know of a guy here on GFY, that owns a popular program that is also was a dentist. Yet rich & being a dentist and older than 24 didn't mean he didn't act stupidly by filming himself driving 200MPH on public roads, uploading it to youtube and bragging about it here..

Age nor money creates common sense..

Driving experience does help, but at high speeds it's easy to lose control and not only kill yourself but other in your selfish acts.

Sad for the family's regardless of anything else.

L-Pink 02-05-2013 08:14 AM

Every supercar has certain "quirks" at high speed not being familiar with those quirks kill even the best of drivers. Just being able to push down with your right foot does not make you Tony Stewart.

Choopa Phil 02-05-2013 08:19 AM

Such a shame and could have been easily avoided had he not let a woman drive.

I guess its time to step in for me now.

Nobody seems to ever have asked the question why the Lambo crossed the median, which is the very first question I would ask myself investigating this case.

But of course it's a lot easier to blame it on the driver's age. :disgust

If it was a straight road (and I read nothing about corners or bends in that article) I totally don't understand how the Lambo crossed the median, except something like in my crash happened (check sig for that).
And in that case, it's not about the driver's age. Nobody could have prevented that crash if the car decides to change lanes on its own, which is not a rare sight with Murcielagos.

:2 cents:

Dude it was a public road, not a race track. Roads have dips & pot holes they aren't designed for people to drive at insane speeds. You start traveling 100+ mph hit a dip in the road and it's very easy to lose control.

It's a shame to see young people die so needlessly.
Sport driving wouldn't be fun if there weren't some danger involved. I do it all the time in my Lambo. But I only go real fast on the track.

A real shame and so young. It should be mandatory to have a driving course before they are allowed to drive something like that.and restrictions if you aren't trained

I have zero tolerance & no respect for idiots that treat public roads & highways as their own personal race tracks. I've known people that have died, due to useless pond scum that thought it was cool to drive fast in traffic.

Added to this I grew up racing and certainly understand the difference between the road & a race track.

55 to 70 mph max on the road she was on is the restriction. I can drive up and down that road for the rest of my life in my truck and not lose control like that. So what was the wreck factor? Speed? Mechanical failure?

( could it have been a torque related problem/failure?)

.
