Need a NAS or some "local" backup / file storage

I guess I need around 8TB's of storage or so and I figure some people here must know what's the shit for a decent price...? :)

Has to be raid, so I don't loose all my stuff if a drive dies.

Markul 02-17-2013 08:42 AM

I have this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

With four of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Overkill for what you are asking, but I love it. Use it as a central server for a variety of projects. It has a proprietary Dropbox style client, which I like a lot for team-based projects.

Markul 02-19-2013 02:51 AM

Man there are a ton of those QNAP things. I guess they all come without drives right?

Looking at:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/QNAP-469L-Hi...1267321&sr=8-7
http://www.amazon.co.uk/NAS-QNAP-Tur...267346&sr=8-18
http://www.amazon.co.uk/QNAP-TS-410-...267346&sr=8-20
http://www.amazon.co.uk/QNAP-469L-Hi...productDetails
http://www.amazon.co.uk/QNAP-TS-412-...bs_computers_3

I am totally confused here. I need something that's fairly simple for simpletons like me to operate lol

or maybe just get this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Buffalo-Link...267036&sr=8-14

Markul 02-19-2013 08:56 AM

Bump for me

C4W 02-19-2013 08:59 AM

A QNAP is wery simpel. Do you need the 8tb in a mirror?

I need something thats safe if a hd burns out. No mirror needed I guess.

C4W 02-19-2013 09:05 AM

Then you need 16tb of space.

1 Disk at 2tb = 8 bays on the qnap and so forth. 1 disk at 4tb = 4 disks :)

Not sure how big a disk we can get these days.

When you setup up the qnap it will still be simple.

With 4 disk these one will do you just fine. You can always contact qnap.

Thanks man :) I guess that one is w.o. the disks. I'll hit up QNAP and get some word on what disks to get with that.
