Why Should Taxpayers Give Big Banks $83 Billion a Year?
"So what if we told you that, by our calculations, the largest U.S. banks aren?t really profitable at all? What if the billions of dollars they allegedly earn for their shareholders were almost entirely a gift from U.S. taxpayers?" ~ Bloomberg News Editors

that's the first time I've heard about "corporate welfare". it's pretty sad, people bitch all day cause shaniqua gets 600$ a month in food stamps but these greedy bastards get leer jets, limousines and champagne.

You did see that it was the market giving them the extra profit based on the perceived backing of the US taxpayer. It did not come out of your pocket or paycheck.

There should be no bailout of any private business with public monies.
Ever. Period. . |

Why should we give even more to green energy firms that end up going bankrupt then being bought by the Chinese for a much lower price?
We've given FAR more to green energy firms, aka liberal allies then banks. The only difference is they never work and taxpayers never get their money back. Nor do they actually provide any services to the public since they are generally experimental, not actually working. |

We give more than $83 billion in yearly subsidies to green energy firms? Do you have proof of that? |

i was being sarcastic because i don't like that description of what is going on. it is corporate theft by means of government fraud. you are right about one thing though, it has all gotten way out of hand.

Huge corporations in every sector get massive corporate welfare. Did ya'll know that the 10 most profitable companies paid an average of 9% in taxes in 2011?
Sure, they're taking advantage of the tax rules, but here's the part you never hear about: they spend huge amounts of money on bribes, oops I mean lobbying and campaign contributions, to modify the tax code in their favor. Corporatism aka fascism FTW |

Facebook got a 429 million dollar refund. A 1 billion dollar tax break?
They made more than 1 billion last year. |

Corporate welfare is okay, not social welfare. Sheniqua aint creating thousands of jobs.

Sheniqua spends every penny she gets, which in turn supports small businesses, as well as the larger corporations. Without the Sheniquas in the mix, the economy shrinks. Even the big corporations suffer. They are left to wonder where the customers are, and in turn lay even more workers off to maintain profitability.
