Jeff Hanneman, Slayer, RIP...

One of the founding members of Slayer, guitarist Jeff Hanneman, has died of liver failure at 49 years old:

Jeff was from Oakland, and was a huge Raiders fan (he often wore a Raiders jersey in concert):

Wish I could have made a happier Slayer thread, but at least people are celebrating the music and life of Jeff Hanneman.

So where are you located? I mostly go to shows here in the Bay Area, although I like to catch shows in other cities when I travel. Most tours, big and small, pass through the music and arts oriented Bay Area, which has a rich musical tradition.

Anyway, back on topic. I feel like fucking thrashing:

Not sure if that's what happened. But I've lost a lot of friends to alcohol/liver failure. :(

Brilliant band, great guitar player

Dead 05-03-2013 04:08 AM

I think I killed my speakers last night. Jeff will be missed...

Located on the other coast here in Atlanta, the music seen has gone to hell. We have to travel just to catch a good show anymore.

EddyTheDog 05-03-2013 06:54 AM

He got NF and it sounds like it was connected to that - If it was the NF that finished him off - yuk - Not a good way to go...

Interesting that he got the NF from a spider bite.....

Jay-Rock 05-03-2013 06:57 AM

My band Faceplant opened up for them in 2004 it was the most defining moment and biggest show I ever played in my lifetime. They were just as good live as they were recorded or even better ! RIP Jeff

Captain Kawaii 05-03-2013 08:54 AM

from 2011

From metalunderground.com;

"Slayer guitarist and co-founding member Jeff Hanneman has announced that he has made the decision to leave the band, following his recent medical problems. A message from Hanneman reads as follows:

"In what is probably the hardest decision I?ve ever had to make, I have decided to part company with Slayer. You can imagine how difficult this was for me to do, what with Slayer being such a big part of my life for like thirty years, but due to my problems with my arm, I?ve been left with little other option. I?d just like to say thank you so much to the guys for helping me a part of something so important and amazing, and also a huge thanks should go to you, the fans, for all the support you?ve given me over the years. Thanks again guys! You rule!"

The remaining members of Slayer have also spoken about Hanneman?s departure, posting the following message online:

"We are completely saddened by Jeff?s decision to leave the band after so long, but we don?t want him to rush his recovery, which has suffered another setback recently. He?s more than just a guitarist, as I think our fans will agree, and Slayer just won?t be the same without him. Thank you Jeff.

"Of course the question on everybody?s minds now is what are we gonna do? Obviously we?ve got our tour dates coming up soon which Gary (Holt, Exodus guitarist) and Pat (O?Brien, Cannibal Corpse guitarist) have graciously agreed to be a part of, but the long term future of the band remains a mystery even to us."

More details will be released shortly"

Bad yesterday news. Why do you remind us? Not cool.

rayadp05 05-03-2013 09:32 AM

Very sad day for the Metal industry, no doubt. Slayer were a band that I started listening to almost 30 years ago. So yeah, I have always been a DIE HARD Slayer fan. God, I cannot even believe that I am even typing this. I mean, where the FUCK did the time go? And now, Jeff is deceased, Tom is having issues with his back, But hell, I suppose we are all getting older. My wishes, prayers and thoughts go out to Jeff's family, friends and band members.

Thank's for all of the GREAT guitar riffs that you have contributed over the years and for making such an impression on my life, especially during my younger years. You are awesome and will most definitely be missed Jeff!

RIP bro.
