Reddit user: Yesterday I paid for porn using bitcoin, and it was awesome!

In the past, I've fallen firmly in the camp that paying for porn is ridiculous. There's so much free stuff out there, why would you possibly pay? However, being a bitcoin enthusiast, I have been trying to support businesses that accept bitcoin. Last night, as I started to feel the need to fap, I decided to combine my love of naked ladies with my love of bitcoin.

After reading about it in the news, I had bookmarked met-art's bitcoin site: http://www.metartnetwork.com/bitcoin/ (NSFW). So, I went there and decided to sign up for ALS Scan. The sign up process was all relatively easy. You just enter your email address, they redirect you to bitpay, and then you pay $15 worth of BTC. Finally, they email you a username and password, and a minute later you're in.

I do wish that an email address wasn't required, and I wish they didn't just email you a plaintext username and password. But, in the end, I can't really complain too much, because it was way easier than entering a credit card and worrying about recurring charges and identity theft.

Once I was in, I was happier than a fat kid in a candy shop! It was way better than any free site I've ever been to. All their content was well organized. There were no annoying pre-roll ads or popups. All the videos were watchable right on the website in HD, and were downloadable for offline use as well. All the picture sets had downloadable zips as well.

Ultimately, I am a very happy customer. I really hope more porn sites start accepting BTC, because I can definitely see myself becoming a paying porn watcher again, as long as I don't have to risk giving up my personal details.

i agree bitcoins could save porn!

ottopottomouse 05-03-2013 02:32 PM

could have written it a bit less like an advert.

arock10 05-03-2013 02:37 PM

bitcoins far better for piracy then paysites...

:2 cents:

"Hi, I don't want to be emailed and choose to use an anonymous currency so no one knows who I am or what I do, but let me tell the entire internet all about the porn site I just joined and how awesome it is, especially their well organized content." :upsidedow

Sounds legit.

Though, it is a heck of a lot easier than paying with a credit card. That much is true.

Not if you already own some BTC.

Internet Guy 05-03-2013 08:12 PM

Thanks to all the shitty stuff porn paysites have done to peoples credit cards over the years, Bitcoin is actually perfect for this.

People will actually buy if they don't fear being molested via Credit Card fraud.

Much safer for the consumer.

Yeah, what you guys said. I'm accepting Bitcoin, so I am obviously not down on the Bitcoin aspect. But that is some seriously lame blatant astroturf fake post action.

helterskelter808 05-03-2013 09:05 PM

"This account is a throwaway for obvious reasons."

No kidding. This shit is fucking embarrassing.

"I just paid $15, and instantly had access to a ton of high-quality stuff - for the next 30 days. It's all DRM free, and I can download all the good stuff for future viewing."

:1orglaugh

"Free stuff is so often just low-quality clips, or just a few low-res pictures from a picture set."

When? 1995?

"I belong to many private torrent trackers that are dedicated to porn."

And can't find more than a few low-res pictures?

"FWIW, I can tell you that I am genuinely not connected in any way with the site I linked to"

:thumbsup

That's what I said, it is WAY easier to pay with bitcoin than it is with a credit card. Unless of course you don't have any.

The porn industry will fuck them too. Count on it. As soon as it dawns on the scammers that they don't actually have to have a members area and the customer can't chargeback, it will be scam city all over again. The usual suspects are probably working ways to fuck Bitcoin users right now. :Oh crap

Mutt 05-03-2013 09:23 PM

holy fuck is that lame - how hard is it to write a natural sounding post

'i did something for the first time yesterday because of bitcoins, i joined a porn site. i don't like giving out my credit card online and i've heard bad things about porn sites that way. so i saw here on reddit that Met-Art was accepting bitcoins and a discount price so i did it. the site is very impressive, both quantity and quality wise. so yay for bitcoins and porn, just thought i'd share a good experience'

There are several who accept BitCoins (tm) here so they could tell us if they add to sales or not

Yes, they bring sales. Though, they are very sporadic for us. One day we will have a lot, then a few days of none. But it is easy to set up and you can be up and running today if you want.

We've also noticed a huge increase in piracy since we started accepting them.

One way to look at it is that these are sales you would not have otherwise had. The other way to look at it is, you don't have any chance of a rebill and now we are spending more time dealing with piracy than before, so we're not sure if the long run will be worth it for us or not. The jury is still out. Ask me again in 3 months.

Another problem is a delay with the btc posting in your account from some users, usually Coinbase to Bitpay, so sometimes a customer has to wait for a while before they can get access. And some of these guys are smart enough to grasp Bitcoin but too dumb to enter their email address on the form so we have no way to send them their username/password or contact them at all. Growing pains for the system, but it is time consuming nonetheless.

helterskelter808 05-04-2013 09:15 AM

Buy porn with Bitcoins, loot the site, upload to file lockers. What's the catch.

anexsia 05-04-2013 09:25 AM

Metart has been advertising heavily on the bitcoin reddit, it's good to see them accept bitcoins! I wonder how it's working out for them so far?

I've been using some of my bitcoins to renew my domains at Namecheap and it's such an easy process...and it's even sweeter because I'm using the bitcoins that I have been mining so it's almost like free domain renewals :).

I know you like bitcoin but the establishment will never allow it to be more than it is now.
IF bitcoin started to be a serious currency then banks would be told not to deal with it, Visa and MC would deny their services to anyone involved with BC.

Either we live in a democratic republic and we ARE the establishment or you admit this is not a democratic system and it needs to be eliminated.

You could change my original post to include the full quote and it doesn't change the sentiment at all.

You're an authoritarian using sophistry to confuse the issue.

dyna mo 05-04-2013 10:21 AM

it's silly to try and predict the future, especially on things which you are not familiar.

what you should be asking yourself is why you cling to paper currency in a digital world.

If you believe snipping a comment makes no difference to its meaning, why did you go to the trouble of snipping what Michael said?

As a 'currency' Bitcoins will be irrelevant if The Man cracks down on it, because the only people who would then use Bitcoins are criminals and other oddballs on the fringe of society.

Once again... the quote being whole does NOT change my original posts sentiment or validity. Re-Read it with the full sentence.

You chose to ignore this and misdirect becasue you have no substantive argument. It's a waste of my time.
