The impending penguin update...

My buddy Zack Williamson has worked on some major tube sites in his career as a porn seo, he posted his theories about the pending penguin updates on his blog, figured some of you might be interested.

"After months of no updates, Matt Cutts lets the cat out of the bag on the newest webspam change? Penguin 2.0 is coming and it will have serious implications for link buying and therefore porn SEO. Since 80% of the top porn tubes spend tens of thousands buying links, expect to see big shuffles in the SERPs."

been hearing some things too

TheStout 05-15-2013 10:40 AM

Thanks for the update.

EriktheRabbit 05-15-2013 10:46 AM

It will probably put ad networks out of business. Unless they are adsense or adwords. This next update is googs coup de grace for its competitors. Solution? Who the fuck knows.

icymelon 05-15-2013 11:38 AM

that was my first thought when I saw his new video and he said porn and link buying not in the same sentence but I thought about all those tube results coming up in the results. And the quality is not great if thats what you are looking for a lot of times. Interesting to see how that pans out. I do suspect that the big guys have enough links to over ride the filters. But I guess it depends on the goal of the update. We will see.

The hell is wrong with link buying tho?

It competes with AdSense?

here we go again!

Lots of legit things that worked for many years no longer do. Some still do, but I see those as going soon too.

The SEO game as it is will be done like betamax before the decade is over.

Relentless 05-15-2013 12:18 PM

Actually relevant sites with contextual links to your site in well-written original articles still works great. There is no nerf possible against high quality content links from relevant sites, unless google wants to rank poor content over desirable content. Building nerf-proof sites isn't complicated.... But it is a lot more work than most webmasters want to do.

It's all theoretical with seo as usual, but Matt Cutts has been harping on paid links which only has a purpose to pass on page rank (or SE boost) for a while now.

Been reading a few other things on that, seems they are looking to tighten the algo's in terms of identifying sellers/buyers...as to how that is going to work, time will tell as new information and tests are done after the updates...

Consulting and various side projects! (ambiguous enough?) heh :)

Well,i was wondering how did porn went away so long with buying links considering mainstream sites get's nailed pretty fast if they sell /buy hardlinks. Not to mention how people was reporting some of tubes for buy/selling and nothing happened.

O MARINA 05-15-2013 01:22 PM

oops wrong thread.

8. Leveling the Playing Field

Cutts also mentioned briefly that these new changes are geared toward helping the little guy, ?small-medium businesses and just regular webmasters as well?. For the longest time only the top sites that could throw tons of money at buying links made it in the search engines but the Penguin 2.0 update will leave great opportunity in the algorithms to get ranked and still spend a fraction of what the top sites are paying!
I'll believe it when I see it. In almost every other previous change the big players were effectively exempted 99% of the time while everyone else got it stuck to them at full force.

Lol, I dont believe anything said ... I need to see everything he said to believe this time .... I had heard the same thing for years and nothing has changed

My guess has always been that because there is such an abundance of link trading in the adult industry (poker and pills too) that the algorithms are sort of slowed down from detecting unnatural links in the heaping mess of interlinking going in adult.

Mainstream, from my experience has not put as much effort into link buying/trading and therefore most MS sites doing anything shady that you could get away with in adult will be much more visible to the eye of Google. Also, mainstream has social media venues not available in porn marketing, or at least more difficult to utilize in an optimal way which could account for the adult industry trend to put more focus on link building.

Yes it sucks, unfortunately for most webmasters alot of the big guys got in during that golden age when link buying was 100% effective and they had the funding to do it, now they are basically grandfathered in SE's. Would be nice to see a few of them fall down at least a rung or two on this update.

I assume (without reading the article) that they are going against paid links which are bought in order to rank better in serps, ad networks has nothing to do with it.

Oracle Porn 05-15-2013 02:12 PM

you guys are fucking nuts, link buying has been forbidden forever, what this nigga gonna do now? nothing
how the fuck is he going to know which link is paid for and which one i put up because of the goodness of my heart?
