One of my Land Rovers has a tiny tear in the suede interior door... HELP!

Ok, so one of my Rovers has a tear on the door... inside the driver's side door. I am afraid my kids will play with the tear and make it worse.

Yes, I have looked for "suede repair kits" as well as on the Rover forums. Basically I just want to hold it down so it doesn't get worse. Any upholstery guys that can chime in on a temp fix until I trade it in?

Hold on, I'll take a pic... it's small.

Harmon 05-30-2013 09:47 AM

Shit pic... Point is, it's like a smaill "V" tear... if somebody was to get caught on it, it could get much worse.

Everything I have read says get a matching door panel.... I just want to hold it down for the time being.

Nigga please lol

purecane 05-30-2013 09:53 AM

try slipping a small piece of leather or material under"inside" the tear. then CAREFULLY superglue the edges. won't last forever, but it will hold in place for a while.

This is an awesome idea. Thank you. Might have to actually cut it open a bit more to do so. Appreciate it :thumbsup

dyna mo 05-30-2013 10:01 AM

Actually it makes sense. This thing is soon into trade in status... I am not willing to invest a grand into a door panel I won't see back. Learn2cars.

dyna mo 05-30-2013 10:11 AM

you can get that repaired for <$100 i've had leather repair done like that, it's worth it.

dyna mo 05-30-2013 10:12 AM

if you have any upholstery shops nearby, stop in and ask them for a leather repair person or perhaps here

I hear you... it's actually not suede... it's actually microfiber... and it's hard glued to the interior door panel with a foam back... similar to a headliner. If that makes any sense what so ever.

purecane 05-30-2013 10:13 AM

whatever you do, NEVER use the land rovers transmission as a brake. E.G. using the "park" to stop....trust me, this is bad and will certainly void your warranty and cause serious damage. and then when you leave said vehicle at say, land rover of palm beach, all the windows will be smashed out creating a whole new pandora of problems.....

These bitchen seat covers will cover the rip and increase the trade in value. You're welcome.

that's a nice setup, i'd at least drop by a local upholstery shop and ask them. i'm an advocate of handling my own shit but man, modern interiors are very sophisticated and those repair guys have all the right tools.

Not when you pull in with a Range Rover. The price usually triples.

They have the worst trade in value of any car i've ever owned. I love them but I'll never buy a new one again.

I'm going to run the one I have now into the ground.

Choopa Phil 05-30-2013 12:12 PM

Any credible shop will fix that for a couple bills or less without a doubt

I've had a full suede interior installed on my Infiniti, it shouldnt cost that much and if it does your getting ripped off. They can put a patch on the backside and reglue it to the door. a full door wrapped in suede with custom stitching should be no more than 500

First, as a owner of 2 Land rover currently and 6 in the past, con grates on having a vehicle designed to go 130k then totally fall apart....

On to the question, check out this company. I have talked with them myself on other projects and they seem good...

I have a Landrover as well, like the car , but when it bites you it's a big one:2 cents::disgust

I had the same idea, but the ground comes way too soon ;)

Bman 05-30-2013 03:52 PM

They can fix it, take it to a proper place. depending on the color almost perfectly.

PornDude 05-30-2013 04:14 PM

Anyone that is using Park to stop deserves any problems they may incur. Who ever came up with that stupid idea?

Holy shit, my dad used to have an '87 F150 that rocked these on the bench seat... God I miss that truck.

dyna mo 05-30-2013 04:22 PM

well, it is british, like jaguar, you buy 2 of them, 1 for driving & the other for parts.

livexxx 05-30-2013 04:25 PM

Lots of detailers should be able to fix up a disco cloth interior quite easily, certainly for a low value rather than a new door card. Otherwise hemming material, placed inside and under tear and gently iron through a tea towel can do a fix up. IMHO next time leather, much nicer to have and better resale even if cloth cars are tempting buys.

Harmon 05-30-2013 04:43 PM

Thanks to all of the responders... yeah, Rovers are expensive to fix... :disgust Trade in value is decent here in the states.

I would usa a Hello Kitty sticker. Make sure it's a good one so that it doesn't cheapen the car in any way.

Depends, what kind of Caviar was it ?:pimp

_Richard_ 05-31-2013 01:56 PM

not sure exactly why you don't take it to the dealer

but what you should be able to do is find a autowreckers, and get a replacement panel.

Here it's the price, plus install if necessary. So to get a control arm ripped and replaced, $200 bucks for nissan altima 97 (car worked on)
