Are you "proud" of your work in adult?
Not trolling, serious question.
Reading through various threads on here, it's not too uncommon to see someone express contempt for their models/talent or the industry in general or their product or whatever. Or something where the poster implies they feel a bit of shame for working in adult, from a moral or societal viewpoint. Or just total boredom about it all. I read that stuff and wonder "Why are you even in this industry then?" - not that these folks are the majority, but they're out there for sure and I wonder how many others feel this way but keep it to themselves. And then on the flipside of the spectrum you see very few people who are genuinely excited about the service or product they're producing/promoting. Not talking about programs talking their stuff up for affiliates with promo-speak, but candid real conversation. So I'm curious, where do you stand on all this? Every industry's got its problems and questionable spots, but do you personally feel good about the work you do on a daily basis? |
Hell yea, my income has grown annually since starting in 2005. Meanwhile all my old high school buddies are working in factories, as janitors, doing heroin, alcoholics, living with their moms, ect. I am proud as fuck of myself for not letting myself remain at their level, working hard and getting somewhere.

absolutely.

hit me if it's bad |
I am a little more careful about how "proud" I am, but I am still not ashamed of working in this industry. When people used to ask me what I did for a living, I'd say "I build porn websites" but I learned over time that that'd result in a bunch of people wanting me to give them free porn, or entertain their idea about them and their then girlfriends doing porn and if I'd work with them...
Now I say I am a software engineer, that usually glazes over everyone and they let it go, but sometimes I do tell others I work in porn, all depends on how that person acts around me if I feel they should know the extent of what I do. |
a lot of people are/were here for the money and if the money were to go elsewhere, so would they. adult is just another product to promote. if i could of made bank selling toasters online easily back in the day i probably would of done that but adult was where the 'easy' money was...not so much now.
unless you are a producer/photog or something like that, its not really all that impressive being an affiliate. be proud of your achievements but does it really matter if its in adult or not? |

or the dreaded 'gangbang' word comes up within 5 minutes of you telling them. http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m99q6roi3b1rvd5xb.jpg |
I'm proud of it, yes. I'm not really the boastful type, though, so I don't go shouting it in the streets or posting a thread every time a new sale comes in.
|
Sure :pimp
|
if I wasn't I wouldn't do it. if you arent you shouldn't be here
|
I don't go around introducing myself as "the dirty website guy" but someone can figure it out fairly easy by Googling or doing a background check. I don't hide it very well. I like what I do even more so since I stepped away from the affiliate hardcore porn stuff which was getting boring. Now it's more my interests and building sites and communities which I feel have real value to others.
The biggest negative about the business now is that there are more unscrupulous people around pound for pound. Sure we always had them but now they've taken over and many of the great people (mostly independents) who used to be around are long gone. I hate the feeling of knowing that most of my checks are probably coming from people who couldn't give a shit about me or are mobster or money laundering types. It wasn't always that way. |
Why not, i did all with proud smile on my face!
|
Proud lol...
|
don't believe in having personal pride about my accomplishments... I'm very grateful for my abilities and the result of my efforts ... I leave 'pride' to the homosexual's, black's, brown's etc...
|
Why do people feel the need to have pride in their work all the time? Pride is a weakness. We do what we do because we can make a living with it, why does it have to be more than that? Well everyone except signupdamnit apparently.

I'm extremely proud of the work I do and the end results of what I'm doing. Love to have that sense of accomplishment at the end of the day. Weakness? Okay, if that's how you see it. Guilty as charged. |

Maybe I'm fortunate in that regard though far as "We do what we do because we can make a living with it". My main focus in this biz is vintage stuff, which I collected and was involved with long before making it a commercial venture. Started as a labor of love, so I get some satisfaction from it above & beyond just making $$$ and being one's own boss, etc. |
Love it as much now as we did in 1998 when we launched. Very proud and love every part of what we do.
|
Nothing wrong with taking a certain kind of pride in one's work. Doing fine work and applying an attention to detail is always a good thing, and that kind of pride is the difference between satisfied clients, more sales, etc, as opposed to just doing the minimum and working robotically without any pride whatsoever.
But boastful pride? I've never been the type to broadcast what I do exactly, to anyone. But I'm certainly not ashamed of the work I've done for myself and others over the past 15 years in this business. If you're ashamed you're in the wrong line of work. |

Well i am kind a proud, but there are moments when i want to say "fuck this shit" and close all but that is impossible at the moment ;)
But even if i would kill my adult property i would still visit and post on this forum and monitor what is happening in industry. |
I have such a passion for this business. 10 years of up and downs that ultimately equal success. I am very proud of being an affiliate, a media buyer and an affiliate manager. This job is the shit! This business saved me from the streets.
Fuck yeah, I'm proud. |
I wouldn't say that I'm "proud" but I'm certainly not ashamed either. I'll tell anyone who asks what I do except my grandmother.
Adult is a weird thing though. Many people look down on the biz while consuming the hell out of it at the same time. Look no further than the most religious US states also being the top consumers. One of the more ridiculous arguments I see pirates make is "the adult industry abuses and exploits women, no way I'm supporting that!" then of course hoarding porn to jerk off to of women (or men) they believe are actually being abused and exploited. |

I say i'm an affiliate and for some strange reason, people tend to piss on me. Kind of weird.

I know the feeling. I was a college professor that didn't get tenure. Some days I honestly feel like I went from helping young people improve their lives to helping them destroy it. Remember, I'm on the "front lines"; I'm in Porn Valley booking and directing and shooting.
This feeling comes from how society perceives us, of course, and the way I counter that is to treat each and every model with respect and dignity. |

I'm definitely proud of what I do, though I think having an emotional attachment to our sites has made me lose money when I could have made more as JUST a webmaster than indie pornographer in front of and behind the camera, trying to do too many things.
Still . . . I am super proud we're still in business and have built unique personality-based websites that humanize those of us appearing in porn AND making it. Not a lot of homemade porn sites left and still updating as old as mine is! I'm also pretty proud of my wife and her site winning three Tranny awards (thanks Grooby & ShemaleStrokers)! |

Today, I am really bored with it. It's all old stuff and adult lacks far behind mainstream. There was a time when mainstream admitted that adult was far ahead of anybody else. Mostly, I am tired of this 'fuck - shit - cunt' slang among adult webmasters. It really gets boring to see industry people have contempt for their competitors, models and customers. I was never proud of this industry, just as I was never proud of having 3 or 4 escorts every week. Don't ask me why, but I kept doing all of it and never changed. Let's say it's a bad habbit like smoking is for others. |
I AM SOFAKING PROUD that I have the opportunity to make $20,000 a month just cause someone wants to perv my ass thats their problem.
Would my mother want me working at mcdonalds... would my mother want me in the army killing people? Would my mother want me working my ass off supporting a crack addict husband... She says NOOOOOO... I say NOOOOO.. Just say no to crack husbands and we all be will be ok :) I will make us all a shit wack of money... send ur taffic to streammate... love the set up.. gold shows rock... breaks the monotony of nonstop pvts and lots of fun:) KUDOS I AM SOFAKING PROUD :) (and yes I do have 101 couch covers cum in and see) http://www.prettymilfy.cammodels.com Sabby:) |

I don't go overboard with my pride - but I'm pleased that we took a shoestring production budget in 1999 and turned it into a six-figure income by 2003...along with being voted 'Best Bondage Photoartist' at the SIGNY Awards that same year.
We also built up a 30,000-member Yahoo group with over a million views back in the day - based on our original content. I take a measure of pride in that accomplishment. |
Am I proud of what I've done in adult? Yes
Am I proud of the fact that I support my family while working in the adult industry? Yes Am I proud to work with a company and team that I can trust? Yes Am I proud of posting on forums that are riddled with fake nicks acting like fucktards? Hell no |
If someone pisses on you and you decide to tell the world about it
A) you like it... B) you hate that you like it... C) your just in a bad mood and want to bait a troll... DRAMA we all need to interact or u go batty... like me... I have been locked away from normal comversations with people for years. |
In any industry, people have the choice to do their jobs well and ethically and engage in work they can be proud of.
None of us can really control what anyone else does, but we can choose to do work we can be proud of. |

Also "you clearly have never been an affiliate" - where do you get that from? I've done affiliate marketing for almost 10 years. |
Yes, in a vain attempt to convince myself that what I'm doing actually has some artistic merit to it.
Which compared with your stuff it doesn't :) |
Hell yea from day 1 proud and happy and just waiting for more money to start following me around like the good ole days! LOL
|
Yes. As I tell people, I am responsible for their private moments. What I do pleases a very large percentage of the population, even the percentage that likes to pretend they hate what I do.
