Keeping in mind that by US you mean not the American people, but people who are actually in charge of making decisions such as this one, I would say that what they want is not in Syria. It's in the pockets of American taxpayers. The myth about Oil and diamods and strategical ground is bs to make American taxpayers feel that they will at least get something out of this in a form of cheap gas or some other shit. But no, there is no catch for regular Americans in any of the wars that their government had started lately. It's pure consuming of military budget. 650 billions per year need to go somewhere, that's it.
