VPS specs via hostgator $159 month
4.25 GHZ/ 3 GB ram VS Dedicated $174 2.3 Intel Quad Xeon / 4 gig ram 174 month this is for a wordpress site that gets 10k unqiues a day. tnx |
i would go with the dedicated personally out of those 2 choices :2 cents::2 cents:

Dedicated deal sounds better
|
Sounds like you're paying too much if that isn't managed.
Check out http://www.ovh.com/us/dedicated-servers/ :pimp |
You HAVE to select Dedicated. Same price? Its a no brainer.
|
I could give you a server with much better specs for lower price actually. :-)
|
you are doing it wrong
ref: http://ewan.im/900/10-million-hits-a...ng-a-15-server anyways , go with dedicated server.. |
my advice would be to go with DigitalOcean
- SSD drives BLAZING FAST!!!! - Lots of ram and fast CPU for le$$ - 1TB of bandwidth - cheap backups - fast and seamless upgrades - instant activation/provisioning - can buy install cPanel/WHM yourself for easier management (FREE INSTALL) - if you need any help - feel free to contact me at celebempire{at}gmail(dot)com they use SSD drives and sites are really FAST (contact me and I can show you some examples) I run some pretty busy sites there... so even if you plan to take dedicated - get it with SSD. It's amazing performance boost... here is one useful link to... http://ewan.im/900/10-million-hits-a...ng-a-15-server |
Dedicated one for sure. It sounds expensive though.

I agree that due to the nature of VPS, the price should be much lower even with the same level of support and management. We monitor all containers *all the time* to keep our master nodes fast and stable. Xen VPS (which we also have) is usually more expensive because the hardware resources are completely isolated and dedicated and therefore cannot be oversold like the more common OpenVZ or KVM. In other words, you can never overcommit CPU and RAM on a Xen VPS.
Here's a nice article on the differences between the two VPS virtualization platforms we offer: https://secure.xenlayer.com/index.ph...openvz-and-xen Edit: One of the advantages of a VPS is that up- and downgrades can be performed on the fly. And you can reload whatever OS you like whenever you want from your VPS control panel, but hostgator does NOT offer this and they do not use Xen - for your information.. |
Of the two servers you posted specs of, the VPS has the potential be the stronger/faster box, depending on configuration, because of a much higher disk I/O rate. The more concurrent data requests your server has, the lower your disk I/O rate goes. :Oh crap
Your site(s) speed is a very big part of how much Google love you get now ... All of our VPS servers are 6 disk RAID-10 for redundant redundancy, and super high disk I/O rates as a result. For the same $159 a month, I can offer you a 3.20 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon, with 4GB of RAM (burstable to 8GB if/when needed), 160GB of disk space (6 disk RAID-10), and 3000GB of monthly transfer. We also accept bitcoin - rates are updated every 15 minutes. Skype us at 'a1websolutions' or call toll free at 1-855-271-0111. |

Dedicated for sure :thumbsup

IF the dedicate only use local disk's and the VPS's SAN disks are scaled as they should, I would go with a VPS.
