Joomla is horrible
it's fucking slow and it's user unfriendly as fuck. Even the joomla.org site is slow, and all other support sites and forums made with joomla too. It seems like it's a really shitty CMS. Wordpress is so much nicer it's crazy.

Yup. Joomla dropped the ball many years ago imo
|
I used to be firmly in the Joomla camp until I went to work as a subcontractor for a couple of design companies that did mostly WordPress work. WordPress is so EASY to develop and code themes for and is much lighter weight - particularly if the base theme is streamlined and you don't kludge it up with a bunch of useless plugins.
I love WordPress now - it is my go to CMS for my own projects and for client projects. |
i could have told you this ;)
|
Joomla is good if you have a lot of people adding content on the backend. Wordpress is far superior for a one person shop.
|
Our coders and designers dont want anything else. Even if they could code a complete cms wordpress is just the best out there.
And whats not in it yet can easily be made. Love being specialized in wp :) |

i use joomla and wordpress :)

I liked working with Joomla's back end better than wordpress because it seemed like you could do much more complicated sites. However it's always seemed to have a issue with "slowness". I'd never build a site with Joomla though as they just didn't seem to fix it's issues as long as it's been out.
Another option I've always liked was ModX, but admittedly I haven't touched it in a few years, but peaking at the site just now seems like they have been growing quite a bit. |
never liked Joomla... it was slow and confusing... I'm big fan of WP

The problem with Joolma is it was the result of a split up in the community that created Mambo. Joomla was then formed and much but not all the developers moved to Joom, but IMO they never really fixed it's problems. Also, when Joomla became popular wordpress wasn't a CMS it was still just a blogging software.. |
WP all the way...
|
My site was made in WP ! - happy with it :-)

Corporate and Educational worlds have adopted Drupal.

Yes. It pretty much sucks but did you try to run it on nginx?
|
3 times i gave joomla a chance in the past, after 10 minutes working on it i dropped, always shit, use WP since years, and only WP!
|
Yep joomla is shit, but it seems it is kind orianted for multi-user cms systems,so no point for average webmaster to use it.When i was testing it with blank posts options,i was not able to figure out how to make a single post which shows on frontpage lol.And funny thing joomla is still present in many educaton programs. So in shortly today for cms is either wordpress, drupal or your own solution.

I actually do quite well doing mainstream projects with Joomla, a lot of the time companies will hire developers for more complex sites and the developer will only know how to barely use WordPress. Joomla is overkill for a lot of sites and running it on shared hosting is not going to work Its all just PHP and I recommend every webmaster at least learns this language. |
i dont like joomla either
|
I tried this year but gave up after a few days and went back to wordpress.
|
They could have made a decent CMS but they fucked up at some point.
|
I think this thread will enter into gfy history as first thread where all posters in thread agree 100% with op of thread lol
|
Joomla is a really nice platform overall, but overkill and probably inappropriate for what you guys are doing with WP. Joomla isn't popular in adult because it takes more effort to build that sort of site, and WP owns the lower end of CMS with a single manager and relatively simple features.
WP has come a long way in the last few years (no more weekly security updates!) and for the most part you don't have to modify core WP files to make your extensions work, but don't get carried away. WP has clear roots in blogging, and feels like a blogging platform to use. Joomla is a CMS from the core, and provides a pretty complete framework to build applications. BTW - If your PHP sites are slow, try an opcode cache. |
I do not like joomla at all: In admin section it is ALMOST ok, but for users it is always loading so slow...
