Question for Europeans.. Is New York a must see place?

Hi there!

I'm just watching a video clip and it looks like a city worth checking out, but is it any better.. actually more worth checking out then any European city, let's say London, Paris, Madrid, Rome, Copenhagen etc.?

I'm asking because it's way too far from EU and I'm pretty sure it's quite expensive (not only the flight ticket), so isn't the money better spent on exploring EU or maybe Asia (Thailand..)?

just go everywhere, your life is long enough

Londoners love NY, New Yorkers love London. Similar cities.
Its not that expensive, go with an empty suitcase and buy everything you want there.

Save the cost of the flight just with buying a highend laptop.

Have not been there yet, but YES it is. For me anyways and most i know love NY

If there is any city worth visiting it is NYC. Try to find someone local to show you around.

The problem isnt just the flight price, but the flight time, the TSA harassment and stuff like that.. I mean I can go to places like Ibiza, Sicily, Norway etc for a lot cheaper and faster.. :)

Well,New York is definitely place to visit, but i would before first check all cities in Europe, and if you really want to GTFO of europe, you might check overseas territories of europe countries like Curacao,Martinique, reunion and shit like that.Recently i watched how Spain actually have a small territory on north Africa, city i think name was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ceuta and it looked awesome,so you could visit that city as well.

I'm guessing it sucks really bad in the Winter though...

I want to do a full trip to the US eventually - Perhaps live there for a while - However, if I could only do one place it would be NYC...

I would love to visit Castro in SFO as well - Its a bloody long way just to see one thing though.....

It definitely is, New York is one place that only overexceeded my expectations, that were quite high already. It was a great feel to walk the streets, especially since NYC is a place where many of my favorite movies happen and I've always totally idolized it.

The accomodation sure ain't cheap but it's well worth it, if I could pick a place where I would like to live say for the last 20 years of my life, it would be NYC.

An extra minute or two out of your day to check ID? I don't find european airports much faster than US ones, often it's the opposite :2 cents:

While I don't like the TSA, not sure that I even approve of the TSA, you may have been given the wrong impression. They only probe your anus if you are particularly handsome. Now I'm sure that your mother thinks you are beautiful, but the TSA will probably let you slide. :winkwink:

why u asking europeans about new york when you can ask new yorkers.

i live 45 minutes north & been there countless times. its the best city, period. Im spoiled from it cause every other city i ever been to (except vegas) sucks by comparison.

must-visit places thats not the standard times square tourist crap is the meat packing district, the east village, brooklyn, the statue of liberty.

Hope you visit. :)

Because Europeans who been there are usually familiar with the local European capitals, and they look at it with a different way as we do :)

to the contrary. its close to the ocean & its always 10 degrees warmer then the suburbs. lowest temps get into the twenties. it snows less than the surrounding region & the city dept of sanitation does an outstanding job keeping the streets cleared of snow. The worst blizzard shuts down NY for 12 hours.

best time to come is to see manhattanhenge.

There's nothing that compares to the smell of NYC when you first step out of the subway station in the morning. That's the one thing I miss most.

Def, you only get off the shuttle bus at the Pershing Square and voila :)

NYC is a must see. I'm a Floridian and stay in Jersey and NYC for vacation each summer. I never get tired of it because it's a fast pace lifestyle. The best way to see NY is walk. Walk up Broadway from World Trade Center stop and then eventually you'll see Times Square.

Europeans say shopping is dirt cheap in the states, even nyc. Many come just to shop, dine and party.
