Explain it to me like I'm 7 years old: How is fantasy sports played and what is the purpose?
 

I have never really looked into fantasy football, baseball, etc. What is the purpose and how does it work? There seems to be quite a following. TIA :thumbsup

Purpose is to show that you are the best "expert". It is like any other game, in this game you play with your knowledge of the sport.

I've never delved into it either, but from what I know of it you get to pick your own team from existing players in a given pro sport, and you acrue points I think based on your players "plus"-"minus" rankings.

What is 'plus-minus' rankings? All I know is in hockey when a player is on the ice for a goal FOR their team they get a +1. If they're on the ice for a goal against they get a -1.

Normally enjoyed by friends and family members who have never played the games their selves yet talk non stop about in social settings despite knowing nothing about the game, but if they win some money in the process they are experts. In short, it ruins the sports that you grew up with.
