Exactly. My tomcat is much smarter that that dog. He has never been trained to follow the commands but he understands a lot of words. He won't do anything that he don't want to do even if I repeat it many times. However, if he needs something, he reacts immediately. E.g. if you ask him: "do you want to eat?", "are you hungry?" or "do you want a rabbit terrine?" he won't even stand up if he is not hungry. Be if he is, he will react immediately with a short "meow" if he would like to eat something or with a piteous and long "meoooooow!" which means "I'm VERY HUNGRY!" The same applies to all other words he understands. He will do it only if he wants it. The only word what works anytime and switch him into a terminator mode even if he sleeps is "a fly!", because he just loves to hunt on flies and moths :)
