Internet Explorer dead ?

http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

Is there any reason to even bother coding sites for this browser anymore?

I notice so many websites these days have lots of errors on them while using IE 11 so they must not care anymore about it....

It will be for sale on Hunting Moon soon

These are the stats for w3schools visitors, they are quite different from the crowd. IE share is about 50% for desktop users atm.

suesheboy 06-01-2014 06:26 AM

Just checked stats from one of my biggest mainstream sites and 33% use IE, FF and Chrome COMBINED are 27%, and Safari is 8% (surprised so high).

IE (though I do not use it except for checking sites) is far from dead.

suesheboy 06-01-2014 06:29 AM

Just checked my largest clients site: 37% IE

IE is not dead because people that know nothing about pc using it, but i hope it will die one day

Older users still use IE and most of the users in China.

I haven't used it since 2008, I stopped much later than most people i know.

http://gs.statcounter.com/ has it more at about 20%.

Also those W3 stats are from their site's log files. http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php another place on their site shows globally IE use is at 19%. So I would say it is still worth it.

For me it is much higher: 57% still use IE with the rest being Firefox and Chrome.

Firefox, to me, is a MUCH bigger pain in da ass than IE. Have not tried Chrome yet.

Would guess that IE converts higher than the others for you... less tech savvy and understanding that vast repositories of ripped content out there (including your stuff to some extent).

For me it can vary greatly. I have noticed on a few sites I have at least 50% of my traffic from mobile devices so my top 3 browsers are Safari, Chrome then IE. On others I seem to average close to 30% IE with much less mobile traffic.

Most consumer stats I see read from 65% to 85% IE use, every version from 6 to 9, and occasional later versions.

What sucks about any IE after 8 is that it is anally .css3 compliant, and fucked up by not using the old deprecated html elements base. DTD 3 or something?

At any rate, it is a royal pain but from what I see in stats, still necessary...

:D

Internet explorer died years ago :)

desmoines 06-06-2014 01:55 PM

i still use it sometimes, but it's my 3rd choice

Paul&John 06-06-2014 02:01 PM

I use IE every time when I need to download FF on a freshly installed windows :)

2MuchMark 06-06-2014 02:30 PM

IE sucks but not making your site compatible with it is a mistake.

deltav 06-06-2014 02:37 PM

I see it around 20%, give or take, which is about equal to Firefox. Chrome is the leader, Safari slightly behind all of them.

So yeah, more than ever you gotta make sure to design for all of the Big 4.

Letting you anywhere near a site is a bigger mistake :2 cents:
