Jersey Mike's employees must make MAD BANK!
When you pay with a credit card, they have a touchscreen that has options for tip amount (10%, 15%, etc.) - If you want to leave no tip you have to actively push 'no tip' - and then feel like a dickhead.
In places like this, is used to be tipping was an optional, proactive thing, but now you have to be proactive to NOT tip - I'll bet tons of people who wouldn't have otherwise tipped are tipping on these new touchscreens |
Seems like every place has a tip cup now. I was just at Yogurtland and they have a tip cup for the person who swipes your card and hands you a spoon. What a joke!

seems like legit feedback. you should send it to their corp office.

I remember when Carl's Jr had their touch screen for customer to order on their own. Same thing.

this is how the business is able to keep paying minimum wage to their employees. they pass the buck to the customer to keep these jobs viable for people.
if you dont like it you should stop giving them your business, and write a letter to corporate letting them know that youll be back when they increase their employee pay to a living wage, even if it means increasing prices a nominal percentage. |

The business fails to see how this could increase overhead.
Employees putting more on your order in an effort to get a larger tip. Processing the increased amount of debit/credit payment by including tips. Increased accounting costs to properly account and tax tips. I am sure there are other things to consider as well. And like was already said all of this is an effort to maintain a lower wage for the actual revenue earners of the corporation while maintaining a massive profit margin. |
I tip 20% all of the time when I go out to eat at a restaurant, but to tip that amount or anything for someone who is already being paid to makes my sandwich, or someone who makes my high priced coffee is lame.
People at Starbucks make more money plus benefits, than waiters that work at a restaurant do and do way less work in way less time. Charge me less for a Coffee, I wouldn't mind tipping. If my custom coffee was $2 and not $7, I wouldn't mind tipping. But Starbucks seem to make enough off my $7 coffee to pay for their employees college expenses and pay them a pretty good wage. By all means I'm not cheap, but fuck, if I'm gonna get taxed more than I am for something that is already suppose to be getting done with the high price that I'm paying. Just Dave |
Tipping is out of control.

At a movie theatre near me if you have $5 or $10 in change coming they'll ask "do you need any singles?" And it's obviously because of the tip jar.

Tipping is such a terrible system. It's just guilting people into paying more than they want to. You have to tip people, even if they gave the most mediocre service ever, or people think you're a bad person. I wish it was just built into the check.
