Woman hit by California officer gets $1.5 million
 

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? A woman punched repeatedly by a California Highway Patrol officer on the side of a freeway in an incident caught on video will receive $1.5 million under a settlement, and the officer has agreed to resign.

CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow confirmed the settlement in an emailed statement and an attorney for Marlene Pinnock confirmed the dollar amount for The Associated Press.

Wednesday's agreement came after a nine-hour mediation session in Los Angeles.

"When this incident occurred, I promised that I would look into it and vowed a swift resolution," Farrow's statement said. "Today, we have worked constructively to reach a settlement agreement that is satisfactory to all parties involved."

The statement said that Officer Daniel Andrew, who joined the CHP in 2012 and has been on paid administrative leave since the incident, "has elected to resign."

Andrew could still be charged criminally in the case. The CHP forwarded the results of its investigation of the incident to Los Angeles County prosecutors last month, saying he could face serious charges but none have been filed yet

Got to love the cops. They give out chicken shit tickets to raise money and then have to use that money to pay off lawsuits for police brutality. They then increase the issuing of chicken shit tickets because they need more money, further raping the citizens even more. Awesome

I know a lot of cops. I have a big portion of my family who are cops (including my Mom who was one of the first female deputy sheriff's in Polk County Fla)

I'd say they are just like any other people on their job.
About 5% really care. 95% are just trying to get through the week so they can party.

And of that 95% working for that paycheck...there's probably 25% of those who are just pure straight up assholes and bullies and sometimes psychopaths.

Those percentages are probably the same in any line of work.
But with cops having almost unlimited power over citizens out in the field....it's fucking dangerous.

And the majority of the 95% who are just working for a paycheck but aren't crazy...they are mostly going to stand by and NOT stop the crazy ones (and sometimes even join in when a "group think" mentality hits in the middle of a situation).

$1.5 million is too much. That's more than most people make after decades of working.

My go to guy where I used to live is a deputy sheriff.
And as I stated before...the drummer in one of my old bands used to get his stuff from the county District Attorney.

People get high in all walks of life. Judges, cops, lawyers, politicians...that's just another reason why the "drug war" is pure insanity. :(

There is a psych screening, but I'm not sure it means much. Here are two examples of the police system at work.

I know a lot of cops. A few of my best friends are cops and through them I have gotten to know many other cops. One friend of mine was trying to become a reserve officer. She had to go through a psych evaluation. She had recently gone through a shitty divorce and was getting her life back together after it. She was told she failed the evaluation because of this. Meanwhile, an officer my friend works with knew he was doing shit that would come back to bite him in the ass so he tried to get a job at a few different departments. He passed the interview process, but failed that department's psych evaluation so they didn't hire him. After this information is made public, the department he was working for kept him on and he continued to be a cop for another few years before all his bullshit finally caught up to him.

They should pay out more than $1.5 and pay out big for any wrong action by a police officer. Here is why...

If a citizen punches a citizen, its is a normal assault. When a Police officer punches a citizen it is not normal assault because most people will be freaked out similar to a rape because of the power a police officer has.

That video of the guy getting shot is a perfect example. He is apologizing to the cop because he is scared shitless and forced to sit there being buddy buddy with the guy who just shot him. That is mentally damaging and I hope he gets awarded big money. Sadly, he is black and from the looks of it in the poor part of town so statistically he probably won't see a dime, but I hope I am wrong.

The video of the guy getting shot makes me fucking sick. The guy is working his ass off as a courier so he is not getting rich and he gets shot by a punk cop. Hope he gets a few million.

You don't hold out because they then appeal. You see your money 5 years later. By then lawyers eat half and appeals lower it to 3 million. You get the same money. Just later.
