I had a conversation last night with a 45 year old female friend, it got around to youtube, and breaking bad. She told me she'd never do anything illegal, or pirate a movie, watch something without paying etc (and she is that sort of person, so legit), and was genuinely shocked when I told her breaking bad episodes on youtube were copyright infringement.
The reply was 'what, even on youtube?' - she isn't a dumb person by any means, but shows to go you the society we have created where most people think that the millions of songs, movies, tv shows, etc on youtube must be legit because well, they're on youtube. Swap youtube for imgur or flickr, as the article writer says, and now that's a pretty hefty amount of people who genuinely don't realise that just because something is on a 'big site', it isn't actually free for everyone to share at will.
The internet was the birthplace of the digital market, but it'll kill it's own product. By then we'll be selling telepathic porn though, so we should be ok :upsidedow
