Beeping Smoke Detectors
I live in a place where the vacant apartment next-door has smoke detectors that beep 24 hours a day 7 days a fucking week. The apartment manager which is a construction company not a legit office with apartment managers refuse to fix the problem. I literally live in hell having to listen to this fucking thing beep every few seconds and it never fucking ends. When I call the manager he bitches about me complaining about it and says he's busy with other things.
He fixed it the first time and he put a used battery in the detector and a month later the fucking thing is beeping and he's bitching about having to change the battery again which it's not my fault but his. What should I do? |
Pretty sure they're legally obligated to fix that. You just need to dig up the paragraph that applies to your situation and see how you can escalate this.

concerned citizen call to the fire department, that you think there's a fire. Once they come out 2-3 times... They will demand they get fixed.

Here's what you do: tonight wait until your city noise curfew is over, probably around 10 PM, though on a weekend that might be later. Wait an hour or so, then call the cops. Tell them that you hear the fire alarm ringing next door and you are concerned. They'll come out, most likely have probable cause to knockdown the door and check out the situation. Apartment company will have no choice to fix the issues at that point. |

Yep call the fire department, complain about the beeping smoke detector, won't take the property manager long to fix :thumbsup
|
It interferes with your right to quiet enjoyment of the premises. There are remedies under the landlords and teneats act. A non working smoke detector is a danger to all in the building. When the battery goes, you need to install a good new battery, as the cheap varieties, will not power it evenly, or consistently. I use Duracell's they last about a year, made the mistake of trying the cheap ones. :winkwink:
|
Kick the door in and only steal the fire detectors and kick a few holes in the walls and then take a black can of spray paint and spray "Vandalized by Shorty from the dead battery smoke detector crew" :thumbsup

Personally I'd pick up the phone and say... I'm not gonna listen to this beeping shit all night, fucking new battery is chump change so put in a new one jackwad or you'll need to replace the front door after the fire department knocks the bitch in. When he complains then say fuck it then here's my notice I won't be resigning my lease you cheap prick. Beauty of apartments and being single is you're not tied down, of course I'll probably die old and alone but at least I'm free from bullshit and take shit from nobody. I yell at idiots on a regular basis to get shit done. :2 cents: |

What are you going to do when some metal head with a girlfriend that's a screamer moves in? The sound of a loose headboard, godsmack, and a skank screaming fuck me harder daddy are a lot louder than a smoke alarm beep.

Get the fire department and the building inspector on his ass first.
I that doesn't solve the problem -- escalate it ... File a lawsuit and motion the court to escrow the rent money ... |
He fixed it, all is good now!
|
so what made him finally fix it?
|
Buy a home:2 cents:

Had the same problem with a vacant house next to me a few years ago. I broke in and changed the battery myself. No big deal.

Commits criminal acts ^^

What kind of noise was the smoke alarm making? A loud alarm to indicate a fire or that once per minute little beep that acts as a low battery warning?

Just start a fire in the empty apartment...
This should destroy the smoke detectors and stop them beeping... :2 cents: |

Anyone that thinks a beeping smoke detector from a failing battery sounds anything like a smoke detector alarm has a screw loose. Call in false fire alarms and you will be the one in trouble; even more trouble than Rochard with his B&E.
