Gym People - Best Protein Powder?
I'm doing some pretty heavy workout but not eating enough protein in my diet. I was told I should have a small amount of protein powder before workout and a small amount after for muscle repair.
Can you recommend a really top product which is supposed to be the best of class? I want something I can mix with a milkshake that will be 100% healthy, no chemicals and is a well known brand which might be available around the globe? |

whey isolate in general is a pretty safe bet. anything else is a 'blend' and full of sugars and garbage you don't need. If you are adding it to a 'milkshake' you may want to make sure you aren't shooting yourself in the foot first. What do you want to add it to exactly? I just use it with water.

How much of that stuff do you take regularly? Thanks for the tip - because I definitely want as pure as possible protein with no extras. I don't want to really bulk up but I just want to make sure im consuming enough protein to maintain and repair. It's really tough because I don't actually eat much and I only work out once a week but yet my work out is pretty aggressive.
I was hoping to disguise the taste by putting it into a milkshake or just sprinkle it over my cornflakes in the morning or something. |
The old met rx rocked but after he sold it,they changed the formula. I like muscle milk myself.

amounts are debatable, generally people take far too much in my opinion. If you aren't trying to get huge 1 scoop a day on non workout days 2 on work out days is fine i'd say. The rest you should get from food, ie; eggs, fish, chicken.
best thing with isolate, i find anyway, is that you don't need to use as much. raw eggs are perfectly safe these days, not that I'd ever do that, cooking them is easy and fast already. oh muscle milk? blend city.. some good dog kibble out there with less filler.. |
If youre looking for a whole food source just get pasturized egg whites and calorie free walden farms chocolate syrup. 8-12oz would be prefect for a "protein shake". Six star protein is garbage and so is muscle milk.

Muscle Milk is a crock of shit. Yeah has protein but too much sugar. If you can stomach it, go with a full chicken breast before and one after. Hour before and right after. Good for the pre load and the replenish afterwords. Try to get at least a gallon of water in your day, mixed with a cup or two of green tea or black coffee. If your hell bent on going with a powder, above Whey is your bet.. also, would not forget a creatine mix or better off pills as well. I've lifted for 8 years, and never once bought any of the high dollar shit you see in the stores or weightlift mags. My Wal Mart creaine pills, and chicken tits does good for me. Im still consuming in the area of 300mgs a day of protein via chicken, eggs, rice, oatmeal and some pork, but I'm on a pretty strong routine 5 days a week too.

Why the fuck do people take that shit? Right now I walk 10km EVERY day and do weight lifting 3 times a week. If you want protein, eat chicken breast, tuna, beans, yoghurt, etc.

Exactly right. When I first got into lifting, I drank protein like a mother fucker, and worked out.. minimal, after about 2 months I put on nearly 40 lbs of flab... unless you can work the protein into muscle thru a shitload of training, you dont want to overload on it.

The honest truth is that its irrelevant until you fully understand proper training, proper diet, nutrition timing etc. Any random mainstream whey will do, because like 90%+ of people asking these kinds of questions, you are making so many mistakes in so many areas of training, that its completely irrelevant to nit pick tiny differences in products.

Chicken, Steak, Tuna, Fish in general, pork all meats, Cut the carbs to 50% of your normal.
I also add a bit of protein shake into my coffee in the am, but its like a half teaspoon. Nothing more than that. the 1 bottle of it I have i have had for more than 6 months. And use Honey as a sweetner in any shake you drink. |

I bought the Arnold Iron Whey in the big green bottle.
It's 70 servings per container which is more than most and at Sams club was $42 for the great big container. Mix it with milk for a shake in the morning and then water after a workout. 1 hour work outs 3 days a week. I'd like to get testosterone to add energy and general feeling better at 40 but I haven't been to the dr. to get tested yet either. |

Jay Robb protein powder comes in whew and egg white. Is delicious, no junk in it and sweetened with stevia. They make sure the cows are grass fed and no hormones in them. They have small packets of it at whole foods for like $2 if you want to try it. I think its terrific
