Machine gun mounted to a drone

pornmasta 02-17-2015 09:57 AM

the concept is probably true, but for some reasons, this video sounds fake

_Richard_ 02-17-2015 10:09 AM

probably something done for a gaming university

aka123 02-17-2015 10:53 AM

Nice, but I don't see that ground breaking battle wise. Nice addition though, especially if that is quite cheap. You know, cheaper than small scout helicopter or something like that, as it probably is cheaper than that.

How much that kind of drone can take hit? If I shoot one rotor, does it become unstabilized and drop?

atom 02-17-2015 10:58 AM

He admitted this video was all CG and fake.

MrBottomTooth 02-17-2015 11:03 AM

This was a fake video created to raise hype for one of the Call Of Duty games that featured similar weapons in-game.

just a punk 02-17-2015 11:06 AM

Yep, looks like a fake.

MrBottomTooth 02-17-2015 11:07 AM

It's about as real as his fake Russian accent.

The .22 would be my zombie apocalypse weapon also. You can carry so much more ammo.

About flamethrower; they often use special cream on their face (to counter the heat). Or gas mask. That drone was fake, but there will be others that won't be.

dyna mo 02-17-2015 11:38 AM

why wouldn't there be helicopter drones with machine guns?

I would imagine it would be difficult dealing with the weight of the gun / ammo as well as the battery life, as well as making the firing accurate after dealing with the kick back of the weapon. Of course I'm sure people are working on perfecting this. I'd be scared of the sucker losing control while firing and spraying bullets in all directions.

Scout helicopter with machine guns was the closest manned equivalent that came into my mind. Although it costs millions and that drone hopefully not.

Just googled this.

"The Kiowa's role as a scout aircraft is being supplemented by tactical unmanned aerial vehicles, the two platforms often act in conjunction to provide reconnaissance to expose crews to less risk"

Bell OH-58 Kiowa - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

EDIT: "Price/Unit Cost:

In FY 2014, a new build OH-58D(R) costs $13.00 million (flyaway cost) of which $5.88 million is for the airframe."

HDADULT 02-17-2015 01:07 PM

Ahh so it was fake, you can kind of tell the way it's flying which was too perfect.
Also by the blast of the gun it looked like CGI.

PaperstreetWinston 02-17-2015 05:36 PM

impressive shit

bronco67 02-17-2015 07:35 PM

If it is fake, then it's pretty good. As someone who does CG for a living, I don't think the average person understands it's not just a button click to put a realistic CG object in video footage and get the lighting and rendering correct.

But I don't think muzzle flashes are visible in bright daylight. Also, I doubt he'd be allowed to destroy the drone like he does at the end of the video.

pornmasta 02-17-2015 07:57 PM

this one looks more true:

That demonstrates one problem that isn't that easily solved: aircraft with small mass is seriously affected by the "kick" when shooting. Although there are "recoilless" cannons, etc., I doubt it can be applied to guns at this size.
