(photo from Internet)

I see these are still selling:
New Sony Wm FX323 Walkman Am FM Stereo Cassette Tape Player SEALED | eBay

Should I throw it away or wait 40 years and make big bucks on collectors item? :winkwink::1orglaugh

Therealwini 07-13-2015 04:42 AM

It is probably collector already :)

God, I don't even know if I was born :)

Tom-LifeSelector 07-13-2015 09:50 AM

you should sell it on Ebay :)

MrBottomTooth 07-13-2015 09:56 AM

Check the sold listings on ebay. They don't actually sell for much more than $20. You'll always see the odd person post them for ridiculous prices but they almost never sell.

romeo22 07-13-2015 10:10 AM

Yea if its function sale it on ebay you wont get reach but i will get some dolla

mineistaken 07-13-2015 11:08 AM

So why do people buy them? That many collectors? Or people still buy it for regular use?

michael.kickass 07-13-2015 11:14 AM

Great brand, I bet it still works.

I have a couple friends that are in cassette tapes collectors clubs. They have pretty big collections. I have another friend who has a small death metal music label that only produces cassette tapes.

Nostalgia? Not sure.

BlackCrayon 07-13-2015 11:19 AM

i threw away my walkmans but i still have a sony discman in the box.

Wow.
How many do they sell? And do bands agree to this deal? Or do they release cd/mp3 elsewhere and use this as an extra sales channel?

I just don't get the desire to collect cassettes. I still have maybe a thousand collectin' dust in boxes...but I just haven't gotten around to adding them to the landfill. Worst music format ever (well, 'cept for maybe 8-track). Prone to oxide drop-outs, tapes snapping, slow fast-forward and rewind. And you can tinker with the azimuth on the playback head for hours and still not get it sounding right.

But...death metal probably ain't for audiophiles anyways. :winkwink:

ZeroHero 07-14-2015 01:08 PM

MiamiBoyz 07-14-2015 02:44 PM

Some day we will all be as obsolete as all this old technology.

Just trash in a landfill (graveyard).

Happy thought for today!

2MuchMark 07-14-2015 02:48 PM

After we moved I found a box of old stuff like TRS-80 floppy drives, a TRS-80 cassette recorder, and a Sony walkman too, all from the late 70's. So cool.
