How can I convert 2,500 clips from Flash to Html5?
is there a way to do this or a service that does this?
I guess you have to do them individually. I need to do this as, for some reason, some clips dont play for some people and I want to fix this so everything plays for everyone. Anyone know where I can go to get this done? |
probably... batch converting flv to mp4 - ffmpeg
|
You want to convert your FLV to MP4. There are lots of converters out there.
Perhaps this: Free FLV to MP4 Converter - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com You will most likely see some quality degradation though. If this is for a paysite, it would be best to encode from the original files again. If these are paysite promo clips, check if the paysite offers MP4 versions. |
Thanks, but how do you do this for many clips on a live site? And I'm guessing you need a new player. Very lost on this as video streaming is not my forte.
|
I could do the video conversions and evaluate your needs regarding the player.
Contact me. |
I'd also be willing to convert your 2,500 clips to html5 for really cheap. PM me here if you are interested. When/if you pm tell me the size of the clips cause to me a clip is 7-12mins and full vids are 30-40+ mins

Hi Marcus, Don't pay anyone to do it for you, its not worth it. Instead, get this program: Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate for Mac | OFFICIAL (PC and Mac) It is pretty fast. It can run in the background or foreground, and you can select the number of CPU cores to apply towards the conversion. It will also resize, apply watermarks, and do about a dozen other cool tasks. What I would do if I were you is set it up on a second computer. Have it load your files via your network and then save them to the local drive. You don't really need super fast disk i/o because most of the time is taken during the compression / conversion. In other words, it's CPU intensive, not network intensive. For best results, install it on the fastest computer you have. If you have multiple machines, consider a multi-machine license for even faster conversion. Good luck! |
It the files are already on your server and live, just use ffmpeg. No need to pay anyone or buy software.

I think you'll have to convert to at least 2 different file extensions, MP4 & WebM/Ogg

Marcus, you need Handbrake. Put all the files in a directory with nothing else in it. Select a profile to encode to, such as "iPhone4" or whatever the least capable device is you want your movies to play on. Click Source->Folder then select the folder, then hit Add to Queue->Add all. Then hit Start. Go away, have cup of tea, go to the pub, watch a movie, have sex, get married (depending on how many cores your PC has) then come back and the mp4 files will be in the same directory with the same names. |
there is no way you are going to do it by yourself... nevermind the fact that it takes some expertise, have to know what settings to use, have to know what traps to avoid, etc... but the sheer volume of it (2500 full length videos?) is unrealistic to do yourself... :2 cents:
but so, shoot me an email woj#at#wojfun#.#com with the details, I can help you out with this... |
all these converters look great. Wondershare or handbrake, who's used either?

Thanks everyone. My admin is starting to convert all the videos from .flv to .mp4
Is .mp4 the correct format? When I look at the videos in chrome directly, without a player, it only plays audio, it doesnt show video. I see .mp4 video works in IE but not in Chrome. ugh |

Check out this page. It works on every browser and device you can think of. Easy HTML5 Video : HTML 5 Video Converter |
Working with video and getting the file formats right, the size right, etc is THE biggest pain in the ass and time consumer in my entire life. LOL
Then again, pics and videos is what we sell so....gotta be done. :) |

HTML5 Video Why don't you try testing these things before giving advice? I have and MP4 works on all the browsers I've tried so far. |

2 file extensions, mp4 and ogg. An mp4 extension alone does not work on all browsers, believe me I've tried it. |
