Sure, lock up a nice innocent person in jail for a few years and there's a good chance they'll come out a criminal.

SilentKnight 03-06-2016 02:30 PM

Can they change? Yes.

Is it likely they'll change? No.

MaDalton 03-06-2016 02:35 PM

180 is a half circle. you want a full circle bryan. look up the meaning of a spiritual circle

TheSquealer 03-06-2016 03:39 PM

who you are is not static and changes from second to second and is influenced by everything around you from every conversation you have to every piece of stimulus from your environment.

If you are asking if people can make major behavioral changes, the answer is obviously yes. I can turn you into a murderer, i can torture you to psychosis, i can convince you to join a cult and slowly turn you into a completely different person with different values. For the most part, a person cannot make major and quick positive changes in who they are without wanting to and without making a focused and persistent effort to do so.

Sociopaths rarely get help in large part, because they think they are awesome and have extremely inflated views of themselves, their abilities and status etc.

Imagine telling Jordon Befort from The Wolf of Wall Street that he needs to get therapy, so he can care about people, understand their needs and stop being so narcissistic and predatory .... and then explain that the end result will be a 65k a year salary, a mini van and a 150k house in the middle of nowhere.... i'd love to pick the brain of the person that could sell that one. :)

people absolutely can't change

they are wired (programmed with particular sets of genes to always act in a certain way) from the birth

they can pretend, or be forced for a time, but will always gravitate back to the original programming

The Porn Nerd 03-06-2016 06:48 PM

People can change yes, but in my experience ONLY when they absolutely MUST change. Wanting to, or wishing it would happen, rarely works.

Life, The Universe, Karma, God - call it what you will. But it will force change upon you.

XXXBizXXX 03-06-2016 07:09 PM

never ever. no fucking way

Spunky 03-06-2016 07:39 PM

A leopard can't change it's spots

Rochard 03-06-2016 07:44 PM

Of course people can change. In fact, people do change. When you've known someone over twenty years, you see a lot of change.

Haha! Yeah that person would have to be an even bigger sociopath. :1orglaugh

Regarding your first point I think what made the Ari Gold therapy sessions so fascinating was the fact that he was only there because his wife forced him to go. He was trapped. I sympathized. :1orglaugh

ErectMedia 03-06-2016 10:08 PM

If they want to change=yes
If someone is pressuring them to change=probably not

I love his scenes - he really picks it up in season 4 and it always makes me laugh.

Some of those scenes are definitely classics.

Serge Litehead 03-07-2016 02:05 AM

only thing constant in life is change :2 cents:

people do change.

they do not like to change due to established level of comfort and stability. remove that and see what happens.
other than that, as mentioned above, one can change if they want to and apply some determination

with people's environment or life-style changes, person's behavior will adopt, over time that may reflect on their character too. everything is relative and conditional, that goes to change itself as well.

what can be programmed can be re-programmed

regarding genes, even one's thoughts and mood effect how genes develop - they always adopt and everything effects them.

No change means no hope.

Motivation and maturity.

theS2O 03-07-2016 09:01 AM

You want these answers to be true, so you subconciously agree, gravitate to them.

Stop lying to yourself.

You were born a useless piece of shit and nothing can change that fact. But it wasn't your fault, you didn't ask for it. Just bad luck.

Things have been the same all this time. Why would they magically change now? Think about it. It's only going to get worse.

Sednub997 03-07-2016 10:54 AM

Ppl are like chameleons they change every fuckin day
