Can a thief do anything with you car registration and insurance card?

My parking lot was hit last night by a thief and he went into all the unlocked cars, including my pair of vehicles. I know I should have my doors locked, but I wanted to know if you guys had any idea if any kind of identity fraud could be perpetrated with the registration and insurance info.

I called the cops and the officer acted like I was wasting his time and said there was nothing that could be done with the info. But he was also an old guy who might not be aware of the craftiness and technical prowess of today's information and identity thieves. And I look at it this way...why would someone go through the trouble of stealing these items from as many cars as possible if they had no use for it? I started a credit freeze with Equifax just to be safe.

Should I worry?

Now they order a key online.

They take the registration paper to the DMV and say they moved and need a change of address. DMV sends them a new pink slip. They have pink slip and key, now they steal your car and sell it for cash.

Going to the DMV tomorrow to replace the registration and will see if they can put some kind of fraud flag on my account. Thanks.

Would a two bit thief choose documents over four dollars in quarters in the console tray?

haha I have a 2016 Rogue and 2016 Altima. Not super nice cars but at least they're brand new. But don't you have a racist thread to make somewhere?

Its not nearly as simple as that. They would also need to show the 6 points to verify their id I think. They basically stole paperwork thats worthless to the theif.

I never make racist threads. Some dumb asses just don't know what racism is. You know who that would be, Tobby.

Depending on where you are that might be enough (after forging a sale agreement) to transfer the car to someone else's name.

sandman! 04-16-2016 12:23 AM

here in USA you need a title or paperwork to order a title no one will buy a car without a title unless they are an idiot.

random paperwork in a car is useless :2 cents::2 cents:

How did you manage to leave two new cars, that both auto-lock the doors when you walk away, open to be rummaged through?

I would worry about that, except that my car only starts with a FOB and not a physical key.

That dumb ass would be you. By the way, Toby is spelled with one b. Two b's make the "o" an "ah" sound. Racist and illiterate.... it's so bizarre you're anti-Trump.

Don't get into a battle of wits with me, because you're not equipped to participate in the fight, scumbag.

try to process this...there's really nothing a racist, halfwit can say to make me feel bad. But I'm sure you don't like being called a racist, because nobody does -- especially someone who know they are one. So remember that before you run off with an unfunny paragraph like the one you just wrote. If I was going around making threads with "black people being bad news" as my primary way of communicating, I'd feel like the shitstain you called me. See what I'm saying? I'm not the shitstain. You are.

Last thing I'd want to do is make you feel bad. Isn't it bad enough already to wake up every morning and see complete loser, whiner, little bitch screaming racism at people you fault for your mistakable existence. I file itemized deductions every year because I donate so much to people like you. . Don't flatter yourself hippie shitstain. I'm not making attempts at communication with you. I laugh at you sometimes but mostly feel bad for you and alike. Thats about it. Now go eat a dick and call your drug dealer for your Saturday night fix.

I once got a car that I could not get a smog certificate for so I couldn't register it in my name. I went to the DMV and ask for a change of address, five miners later I had updated registration and the mailed me a new pink slip in the old owners name but my address. No ID required :thumbsup
