In the last couple of weeks I've experienced the shock of Brexit followed by Sam A being appointed England manager: and for the life of me I can't figure out which is worse....
|
He's not good enough.

He is a great guy.Hope England will make some great result with him

He is pretty well respected as a coach but most of his career he has fought off relegation or been in the bottom half of the table. He is very defence minded which the England fans will not tolerate. It'll be interesting to see how he does with England. I think he'll unite them which they absolutely need, I just don't know if he will get the best out of them and make them play consistently as a team.
He also doesn't favour young players really, he tends to stick to experienced players which brings other issues such as pace in attack. I'm not confident he is the man for the job, I don't give a shit either way, I love seeing them lose anyway :) |

He once served me in a pub that he was landlord of back in 1992 when I went to Bolton with West Brom.

Same thing will happen. England will breeze through their qualifying group. The fans will believe that means they have a real chance of winning the World Cup. Then bam! Knocked out fairly quickly when it really counts.

Against good Continental teams, he will come unstuck. His defence strategy is only as good as the players he can pick. Sadly he's short on talent in that area.
At the moment our best players are the forwards, often left isolated as the back four pass the ball between each other and when it goes to the midfield, they pass it back to the back four again. Which all works fine for teams who have great passers. So sucks for England. Th opposition are confident England won't cause them any problems, so come forward and test the defence and defensive midfield. Which as we see goes wrong for us. In the Euros, we needed an Andy Carroll type target man for others to feed off and played more like Leicester did last season. I felt sorry for Kane and Vardy. They got little decent service. Study the goals that were scored in the Euros to see what worked. |
