I have dozens of servers with OVH.

Best combination of hardware, traffic and support for your dollar. Nobody else comes close.

However you either need to know how to admin yourself or have someone do it for you.

National Net is still my favorite. I've been hosting with the since 2003 or so. Their customer support is just top notch.

Very happy with my M3. Outstanding reliability and fast support. Would recommend them to anyone. + I got 12 months of free cdn. Also, in my first couple of months the load on my server was so low that I asked them if they could somehow hook me up with a temporary cheaper solution; got 3 months dedicated hosting at half price and fully cooperative support. It's a mentality I enjoy working with.

But they can legally snoop your server with no notice? Don't see a law where they are against that and was told it happens.

I have programs & customs htaccess code I don't want accessed without permission incuding proprietary PHP code not found anywhere.

But surely any webhost could do that?

We are at mojo all ok.
I heard bad about hostgator recently.

wiredtree, servint, liquidweb is awesome (they own their own datacenter) m3 is top notch too as well as isprime and mojohost. You can't go wrong with any of those, they are REAL businesses not some startup in a spare office building renting servers. Nobody ever mentions the best of the best which is simply amazon, get an E2 instance instantly and scale to what you need on the fly and pay for what you use, most large businesses use them and there is not a service to help manage it since it's a little complicated for like 5 bucks a month. No waiting, instant server with power you choose.

i always wondering when someone saying something like that and there's not a single word of confirmation.

even in dedicated server section i don't see any details. only "xeon cpu" and hypes like that. maybe there's pentium 2 xeons, who knows.

so, tell me how can you confirm your words? what exactly "top of the line servers" they have?

real businesses only interested in making real money.
how this is related to hosting?
mass production almost always means low quality.
they will never buy top of the line cpu, ssd and the rest.
they're always using things that make more income quicker.

"startups" sometimes give you more for the same money.

and as for reliability, i saw server errors even at google many times :-/
shit may happens to absolutely any host. that's your problems and you have to have copies of your sites and have to be ready to deploy them in different place instantly.

Mojo is my fav one since ages.

We have much newer servers than most hosts and all are high end Super Micro, IBM, or HP.

OVH is just too good to pass up. At those prices you can use it to prototype or backup anything and not give a fuck. Where else can you get a Xeon E5 with 128 GB RAM for $80 a month.

The caveat is that you will have to have experience with server set up and admin as there is no help. Remember Rackshack? It's like that on speed.

The control panel is slick, quite probably the best we have ever used. The way it has management, monitoring and MRTG all in one view is perfect.

Only had good experiences with Mojohost.

Depending on what you are doing and if you know what you are doing, just running on a service like digitalocean is all you need. They introduced https://www.digitalocean.com/features/storage/ storage blocks to make them more useful without having to spend gobs of money for cpu and ram you won't need.

If you need up time and don't know your way around a command line probably get a host that is monitored, i.e. mojohost or vacares or whatever.

Hosting costs practically nothing otherwise.

i think - wow, they promised they have newest high end servers. so i expect xeons e5v4 and i bet you're offering v3 or even v2 or even something much worse.

actually i don't care. i just don't trust those who hiding details.
they usually saying things like we have fastest servers with fastest ssd's, and in a fact they have something like xeon E5620 2.4ghz or E5 first generation.
and intel 520 ssd's or some shitty samsungs :disgust

so many empty words like "Blazing fast adult hosting" without the proofs.

Thanks for the feedback, it's not intentional hiding but I can see how you might feel that way! Our VPS and shared servers mostly use Dual Xeon Eight Core E5-2660 2.2GHz but again that changes with new servers coming in. It's a constant rotation.

The main point is I just didn't know it was common to want such specifics. I lean on the keep it simple to not overwhelm people. I'll definitely talk to James about adding them.

Also don't forget to check the network, a good CPU will mean nothing on a weak connection. We are plugged into 1 Wilshire the second largest open data center in the US.

ah I'm surprised nobody said Amerinoc! like usual or webair lol........all big companies use real hosts........rackspace, softlayer (IBM) and amazon. All the media buyers I know doing four and five figures a day mind you all use amazon to spin up an instance when they need it. I mean they only generated over 5 billion dollars from it this quarter.

I would use amazon if i knew what i was going but i need managed and i guess like a lot of other people also.

Been with mycyberhosting.net for 10 or so years, pricing and service are both top notch and the owner is always reachable if needed.

Simple - I feel like I am dealing with a friend who gives a damn with vacares - I have never had that before - I always feel like I am intruding with other hosts...

if you can self manage or have an admin, AWS is the best.

People are talking too much about Vacares these days but hownlong they been in business for. We know Mojohost is in market for long same as NationalNet...

What you people think about E-1230v2 Xeon? Or E-5620

Both end of life.

I would be looking for at least E5-1620 v2 or E5-1650v2 in a bargain server. And as much RAM as possible.
