Youtube introduces a new program that rewards users with "points" for mass flagging videos
 

Pretty sad really. I'm banned from youtube with my current gmail address because I uploaded some staff back in 2008 (Before google made it part of thier 'group') with a watermark on it - My content - My watermark...

I didn't know I wasn't supposed to do it, but someone flagged me and I was banned.

Even when I asked to be 'forgiven for my sins' last year, I still didn't get a satisfactory reply, and I'm still banned, nearly 10 years later !

Big Whoop. I can still get an account if I create a new gmail addy and use another browser, but thats a pain in the ass... Having to use another browser just to upload the odd vid to show my family etc...

All this will do is create an mini army of unpaid hitlers who will cum in their pants with the chance to fuck with people. Well done youtube.

No, that's awesome for them. They're building their community while removing bad content and improving good content.

Look at what they're offering to their loyal fans:
* recognition with the points system
* power with exclusive tools
* more recognition with a conference

What are they getting? crowd sourced moderation and crowd sourced captioning.

That's one awesome system (if it works).

Does your (or my) followers actively participate to make your (or my) communities better? No. I'll definitely be watching and taking notes. For example, imagine if the viewers of your streaming sites actually sat down and provided rich descriptions for each video. Search engines would love it and boost your traffic. That's what they're doing with mainstream videos.
